Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)
I've learned some time ago, when wending with flux core wire, to change polarity.
It splatters a lot less then. Have you tried that? Do you go from suicide doors back to "normal" doors? I personally like the suicide doors, it's nice custom touch

ya spray on the tip as well. That is a good use of some mini vans.

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)
Kees for now I'm doing away with the suicide doors just a ton of fab I'm not yet confident I could do in the allowed time
Lower I thought it was a good use of vans too Yes my polarity is reversed really the spatter doesn't bother me much so I think for now I will keep what I have since its "what I know" maybe get some .025 to practice with later My question is how many passes is "normal" before you have a nice finished look? I feel like I'm doing something wrong if I need to touch things up 2-3 times or is that normal? The hinge pocket situation that I was worried about is in fact a problem so I will have to cut a section out and lower it to match the top bolt hole that kind of set my night back so I just spent time grinding the passenger window opening area and quit early

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)
I always wanted to build one of those minivan doubles, or do something weird like reverse the body on the pan so it drives "backwards".
I'll be watching for the wheelbarrow firewall, I was going to buy a kids wheelbarrow for a trans bump but it turns out I barely need it.

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)
VS, it might not seem like you are getting much done to you but you are moving along at a good rate. You have a lot to do but you will "gitter done" if you keep at it. BTW, I'm glad that you are not going with the front opening doors.
You could always use a couple of 36 Fords if you wanted to weld to cars together. |

On this jamb its thick enough I'm comfortable running a bead but on thin stuff I was always told to just tac and move around (and I did out of muscle memory) so how will I ever get a solid weld by tacing around like that?

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)
Definitely don't be nervous about showing your welds. That is how we learn from each other. The fact that you are building something that many ppl would only dream of is great and when you are done it will be 100% your sweet ride. I have always wondered about car shows like Overhaulin ect. when they spend all there time on motor, stereo and paint, what do they look like underneath? Keep up the good work!!

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)
I am not a nit picker, I like strong over pretty although there are some guys who can do both easily.
I have learned to be open to criticism, most guys want to help! Mark PMd me and said my motor mount looked crooked on the drivers side, I checked and he was right! Never understood guys who got their nose out of joint because they said "how does it look?" and someone said "do this and it will look better". its the facebook constant approbation generation I guess, "only tell me what I want to hear". anyway, get that firewall started! I have heard of guys using a wheelbarrow but never have seen it.

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)
I don't mean to seem like I don't want it I appreciate it thank you guys for the guidance and criticism
As far as the wheel barrow goes that should begin this weekend if I can get these doors hung first I'm tired of tripping over them and don't want the cab completely open to the elements any longer

Re: Project Orange Crush (57 3100)
Val
I'm currently working on my masters degree from the University of Youtube. Got my undergrad degree, just last night.. I did some hot rodding in the 60's, the only sources where the mechanics that would talk to you about stuff when and if they felt like it. With Youtube that are tons of people that share, Currently I watching videos on TIG welding on sheetmetal and practicing, so far I have gone through about 2 dozen filler rods and not quite there yet. This forum and the Youtube are my greats resources for knowledge. Check it out, I'm a way old bugger and still learning new stuff. Keep on keepin on. Nut Case
