Re: Crewcab build
As promised, pictures if progress.
As I have said before, the Dropmember parts are flawless. I coated them with a coat of silver hammertone paint for now, I have a connection for powdercoating I will use upon final assembly, but I just need some rustproofing for now. I can't wait to get all of my front end parts asembled, I'm itching to see my truck laid out on the ground again! |

Re: Crewcab build
Back from the dead! In the mean time my house i bought has been sucking up all of my money(i"m temporarily getting taxed at the previous owners rate of 595k while they refigure the correct rate), and if you think owning a truck is alot of projects,be prepared if you buy a 85 year old house. Nothing fits, every piece of wood is rough cut(actually measures 2x4, etc) and matching trim is 4x the regular rate. Not that Im bitter....
I just ripped control arms off a donor front end from a mid 70's Chevy tonight, I'm sick of slacking off, and am determined to get bqck to building this truck. Nothing fast, but I will post as I make progress! Promise! |

Good to hear man. I'm in the same boat as you with the house etc... But it's worth it to make your castle your own!

Re: Crewcab build
Awesome project! It's gonna be 10X cooler than a factory CC. Good luck with it and the crib.
What ever happened with the GMC pics? What are your plans for it?

Re: Crewcab build
I ended up trading the GMC for an industrial shop compressor. I bought my house and just ran out of room for stuff I dont really need, and I lost the argument with the girlfriend about "yard art". Probably better off this way, I can ow focus on the crewcab!

Oh yea, I got busy today!
I'll see if I can take a few more tomorrow, too late to take any detailed pictures. Time to swing in the LS1 as soon as I borrow a shop crane! Last edited by PrerunnerRob; 08-02-2009 at 12:28 AM. |

Re: Crewcab build
I am not trying to be a pain in the a$$ but I think your upper control arms are on the wrong side... i study every pic of them since i put mine on backwards a week ago... figured it out when i ran the brake hoses. Easier to fix now than later..(trust me)

Re: Crewcab build
Ha ha ha, I knew something was off! I noticed the castor problem when I went to push it the other day, but was in clean up mode already. Good eye, I'll be sure to now install the ball joint boot that I left out. Thanks!

Re: Crewcab build
Quick update, I just recieved new motor mounts from porterbuilt to move the motor forward to gain some more firewall clearance. I also had him add a rear crossmember to the order, paint is drying as I write this. Also picked up a '62 big back window cab and bench seat to complete my crewcab project!

Re: Crewcab build
Sorry guys, both got destroyed during a recent transport trip form my old shop back to the house. I will now always put glass on the back seat instead of in the bed...
