Re: 72 K20 Cheyenne Super Build

The English language lacks words to describe how awesome that truck looks.

By the way, I was too lazy to read.... What's the R&P ratio in the axles?

Thanks guys!! Waiting for a ship date for it to arrive in MT - hope it gets here before the snow sets in.

The gear ratio should be 4:10, OEM gears for auto/AC from what I understand. A Detroit locker was added to the rear.

Re: 72 K20 Cheyenne Super Build

Finally got a few pics outside the shop with ~25 miles on the truck. Still working out bugs: had to replace the windshield wash pump, the alternator amperage was too low to charge both batteries and keep the truck running, and there's some glitch in the fuel supply from the aux tank. Cruise control works as does the A/C though!

Can't say thanks enough to all y'all who kept up with the build, gave me advice, and helped out with parts. Now way could I have completed this project without the assistance of all of you. This truck and my K5 are to be loaded for transport to my new home in MT possibly as soon as next week. It would be my pleasure to buy you all free beer if you get out to Kalispell as a way of saying thanks! Fingers crossed the vehicles arrive in good shape.

Dave - the seat covers came from boardmember truckseats, he can do highlander covers btw

Thanks!! Subscribed. The 33" tires work just fine in the spare carrier - I'll check clearance once my truck arrives in MT. Not sure if 35" would fit...

Thank you!

To follow up after read the entire build:

Can i assume that the reason to allow for ether forward mount or rear mount motor mounts in the frame is to allow for the front axle to clear the cross member on a 4X4?

Can you look and tell me if when they mounted the bed did they use rectangular rubber 1/4" cushions between the bed and frame? if they did was 1/4" spacers required on the cab mounts and radiator support mounts?

Sure wish i could take my truck to where you had the work done!

Yes, GM moved the motor back 3" on 4wd's I assume to clear the front diff...we moved mine forward by ~1.75" for the 700R4 install - I don't foresee issues with clearance and the suspension is stock.

The asphalt/rubber spacers were not originally on this or the bed-donor truck (or my K10). I did add these however but kept OEM size cab/rad support cushions. All the body lines look good.

Thanks for the good words!

Thanks! Welcome to the board. Check out the last pic in post #4 - look at the inner bed. There's a GM installed in-bed spare tire carrier, which was optional to the under bed spare carrier. I've got the spare in place for shipping but don't expect to do much driving with it mounted.

Pete, it definitely looks perfect! If the transport company falls through, it would be an awesome drive to haul the K5 up to Montana from ABQ using this K20!

Thanks!! That would be a fun drive for sure! Makes me think I should have added provisions for a receiver hitch on the frame when the rear hooks were added. If the K5 wasn't such a dog with the 3.07 gears and 33" tires I'd use it to haul the K20. The K5 also has a 42 gallon fuel tank Once up in MT I'll look into a K5 gear swap for 4.11s or something similar as the acceleration is poor to the point of being risky when pulling out into oncoming traffic.
