I know I drive a ford, but Alan has his work shirt on while he's touching a chevy....hmmm did lightning strike?

I've never seen a cowl ripped off, maybe I should have done the same..

Mike believe it or not he does pretty good work wearing "those" shirts.

I must admit, I was surprised when Alan said "we'll just swap out the cowls". But after seeing him work his magic fabbing/installing the '59 Impala dash in his '65 I wasn't too concerned about my measly cowl swap.

I made a little more progress over the weekend on the cab, getting it ready for the blaster.

The drip rails had a little rot in them so we decided to remove them at this point. I had considered buying repops, but after we looked at my old cab we decided to use the ones off the old cab and save $50. The flanges on the cab are really solid, they actually look worse in the pictures because of the rust from the drip rails.

After they were removed we moved on to the rot that was in upper windshield area on the passenger side.

Alan suggested that we cut the rot out so the blaster could get in there as well. Luckily my old cab is really solid in that area, so we'll be cutting that patch from it.

The last little area on the cab that needed attention were the upper cab corners. Both sides had really big dents in them for whatever reason. Just like everything else Alan had a tool for this job as well. He breaks out the stud gun and goes to work on the passenger side showing me how to do it. He said he's showing me how because I was going to do the driver's side when he was finished. So I paid close attention.

After I got ahold of it.... It turned out pretty good for the most part. We'll fine tune both sides though after it gets back from the blaster.

We're leaving out early a.m. this coming Saturday heading down to the Moultrie Swapmeet to gather up a few parts that we both need and to look for those "good" deals as well. We'll be down there all day Saturday and leaving out Sunday morning sometime.

I'm hoping to have my cab blasted shortly after we get back so I can work on it during the cold months ahead.

I've been in contact with Tim already getting my wish list in order. He's holding a few parts for me that I'm picking up while down there.

Thanks! It's been a long road, but it's coming together. I'm currently saving my pennies to get the cab sandblasted. I'm hoping to get it done before the end of the year.

I tell you what man, I really like to see how this thing is coming togeather, you really are taking it all the way.

When you are done you are going to have a truck that is nicer than any of the current offerings from detrioit, and probably a lot more reliable too.

Thanks for the compliment. It's been a great learning experience for me. The hardest part, besides paying for it all, is trying to stay focused and motivated without getting burnout and just giving up on it. I owe alot to the board and its members for the help that I've gotten over the past 2 years while working on my truck.

Yeah, if you check the trucks for sale section there are plenty that many have given up on.

The nice thing for you is you have the chance to get it all right.

Also with the cowl all apart like that you can put por15 or some other kind of rust prevention on the inside and if done right you will probably never have to touch it ever again.

Thanks. I just used Duplicolor's primer and their Chevy Orange out of a spray can. I hope it all sticks when I fire it up for the first time.
