Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Yep - Shawn is on it, it's Chevy lean. It's not really that the Right Rear is higher, it's the left front is lower.

Belltech actually makes a spacer just for this problem. It's common on S10s, Colorados, Silverados, LUVs (kidding ) all of them .. and it just shows up more when you drop the truck. (visually, because the truck is lower to the ground I guess)

This is the one I used in my S10. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BE...n/?prefilter=1

The one for the C10 might be different, but this will give you the information you need. Google 'Chevy Lean' and you'll find a lot of information.

By the way I was saying the engine looks good
the velocity stack won't be staying it was too small anyway

We thought about that route as well I wanted to get the frame check in the front anyway from the wreck I was in a couple years ago guess that's now moved higher up on the list finally great research Shawn thank you

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Well got half of my good clear paid for. Looking to strip down the truck and have my dad shoot the whole thing in a nice clean spray booth this January to give it that slickness it's just barely missing. Have my sights set on getting the rear end out for a week and getting the housing powdercoated black and reinstalling some 3:73 rebuild gears into it. Bout 800 saved up and ready to go towards that process gonna wait a few more weeks really praying that my rear end will last she's got a pretty bad wobble at mid and low speed might be getting this old beast on the road so I have something to drive while mine is down...

NewType72 --

ShawnO, help he out here brother ..

I mean absolutely nothing bad about what I'm about to say. I just want to say I noticed the paint on your truck and maybe why you're thinking you need your dad to re-spray it? Personally I think it just needs to be color sanded and buffed. If you'd like I can help you with it. Worst case, you were painting it anyway .. right? What if color sanding and buffing saves you from having to cut the whole truck back down and re-spray it?

He's an example of my work.. I'm tellin ya man, I think we could save it.

Before and after on my GMC..

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

I agree with Chad, you can take old paint and make it look like new again. Unfortunately I didn't notice anything wrong with your paint Dylan, it looked good from what I remembered....got any close up pics of whats going on? My truck needs some fresh paint.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

I absolutely agree on what you're both saying however the reason for a clear overcoat is because this is only single stage paint on both the red and white there is no clear at all on this truck

The black truck is single stage. Nothing at all wrong with the paint, .. Now I feel like a douche. Sorry man.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

None taken it sounds backwards I know and id love to take it to an Amazing detail guy near me but this is something my dad decided on doing (I know he reads my forum since he tells me and I can see from my history of pages list) but I think it's a pride thing to him he wants this truck to look its absolute best if it's going to be filling a spot for our good friends in their booth and I can't deny that one bit. I'm Just glad he's as picky as me when it comes to Something that is your baby on a project

Just sayin, the paint looks great to me and I don't think I'd re-paint it (?) But I know what you mean. No worries.

He also burned through a couple thin areas and he's afraid he'd do it again to make the current paint shine like we want it too

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

If I were you I would get the dually out tonight and start using it tomorrow as a DD. Sounds like the clips that hold the axle in the housing are also letting go. When that happens the entire axle will come out of the housing. Not only endangering you and your ride but also the innocent bystander who is going to get impaled by your tire and axle flying through the air. Do not wait until turkey day other wise you might just be the turkey.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

I know it's been far too long drawn out and I'll have another solid week of driving on this rear end before I get the chance to swap vehicles we have a battery coming for the dooley and well have to register and set up insurance and dump the bad gas and make sure she runs decent before i can put Newtype down for the winter upgrades I've been saving for the rear end gear rebuild kit may just hold off on the posi for another time and get the housing powdercoated and slap it back together so she's solid once more

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

Be carefull. As Mike said it is possible for the rear axle to slide out wheel and all. I bought a 68 Longbed once and the previous owner said be carefull sometimes the wheel comes out and I was like "comes out?" Well what he was saying was inside the diff the spider on the drivers side wore into the side of the carrier housing so badly that it no longer would hold pressure on the c clip so it would just slide off the end of the axle and the axle would start sliding out of the diff. Well needless to say after towing it home and inspecting the carrier it needed a whole new carrier so be careful, it's dangerous and can get costly.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build

^^ what he said. Any movement on the axle side-to-side can cause the clip to loose that'seat' and come out... then things go to he11 pretty quickly from there.
