Re: 1978 GMC Build!

well guys its been a while. Switched jobs after 10 years. Been driving the truck for the last few months. Built a flat bed and stained it. It goes to a buddies of mine to get floor pans, inner and outer rockers, cab corners and all new floor braces replaced mid June. here is some pictures. For the time being im gonna roll with the flat bed and do the rat rod look.

Dang! How did you pluck that cab off? Was it difficult with the steering column and all the wiring/brake stuff?

Re: 1978 GMC Build!

brake booster was removed. the wiring was all unhooked. it took 3 of us and a trailer to get it off and in his garage. will take more people when we put it back on because it will all be painted at that time.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!

Bought my paint today. Got it from a place called The Coating Store. If you have the chance to look at them they sell complete kits for far less then most places. Its called Grabber Orange. I chose the low gloss for the look i'm going for. Total cost $161.00 delivered. This includes reducer and activator. http://shop.thecoatingstore.com/main.sc

Let me know how you like that paint. I was looking at it to paint some stuff. I dont know if that will be enough paint for you though.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!

its 1.5 gallons when mixed. With not having a bed on it I should have plenty. The paint gets great reviews so I thought with this being a budget build it was the right price.

Missed the no bed part. Yeah you'll be good. I like their light blues and mint colors. Post a lot of pics and review if you don't mind!

Re: 1978 GMC Build!

Yeah. My build kinda spiraled out of control. I was going to have a shop do the major fab work then I decided to buy tools and learn to do it myself. I am going to take a welding class in the fall to learn tig next.

Re: 1978 GMC Build!

So question. What size tip are you using and how does it lay down? Does it flatten out good after it dries?

I used a 1.4 tip. It did lay down smooth. It has flattening agents added to it already, so it has a matte finish.
