I have to agree on the V8, I love the sound and power but I wanted to do something a little different and with the new exhaust it doesn't sound like a I6 anymore it's more like a pissed off Tractor!

I bought an old Cal-Custom cover off E-bay this week and used it to cover the wiring block on the firewall (fits my theme that I'm going with). Anyway, enjoy the pics.
I just noticed something, that you probably did on purpose, and an idea that I'll probably steal...you rotated the power brake booster 180 degrees so the ugly vacuum line would be on the low side, kind of hidden and out of the way. Too cool! You did do that on purpose, didn't you?

Your the only one to notice so far.....I also made the line out of stainless so I could run it as close to the firewall as possible to futher hide it......we'll see if this all works.....I've started bleeding the brakes so she should be test driven this weekend.

Okay...with the mention of the booster...let me ask this....
How did you overcome the booster bolts (for the master cyl) being rotated a 1/4 turn. That would force the master to be on it's side....making for a hard time checking the fluid level (ha).
Did you make an adapter/spacer or what?

Re: n2billet's project 68 "Extreme Makeover" hot rod style

It's been rotated 180* so the MC mounting shouldn't be a problem. On mine the booster vacuum is on the right side near the top....his is on the left side near the bottom.

Actually the booster is an aftermarket street rod item that has four mounting bolts. I think (could be wrong, most of the time I am) that it's designed to be mounted with the vacuum plug on the top side. I thought it would look cleaning on the bottom side so knowing my luck it won't work. Oh and I made my own bracket for the booster and made it as short as possible to suck it up close to the firewall (another one of those genius moments).... Putter to be honest with you, I could run get master on it's side and not have to worry about checking the fluid level.......I started bleeding the brakes yesterday before work and got zero out of it after about 30 minutes so I'm thinking it's a closed system already

Really? Not to worry my friend. I have every piece of trim that goes on this truck brand new in my storage. I'm not even going to paint it, I like the original paint, I'm going to buff it and call it done.....

If you can't find us in the show look for the red 18 wheeler with flames on your way out. We're going to park the shop rig on street on the way out of the track so we can sit and watch all the cars leave at the end of the day. Drop on by and visit we have plenty of chairs and drinks......

Re: n2billet's project 68 "Extreme Makeover" hot rod style

Finally have the truck ready to roll and still I have no brakes! After hitting my head against the wall for days I finally called the guy that made it and he said to send it back........should have a new one coming my way in the morning. I will still spend another week or so working out the bugs and getting it all cleaned up but I'm ready to start driving this thing!

Since I don't have any plans of ever painting this truck (factory paint) and it's getting somewhat close to getting done (I know they are never done) I started looking for another truck to work on. These trucks are addictive big time so I went looking for another one to fill the void. I want the next one to be an exercise in budget building so I can let my 16 year old son drive it too school ever now and then without worry about all the shiny stuff getting jacked up. So to make a long story short I got another 68 SWB to play with.....I've already got most of the parts for the Air Ride so it will be on air like the red truck but I think that's where the similarities will end. I'm planning on running cast colored centered wheels and all the replacement parts like the tailgate and front fender will remain whatever color I find them in.....sorta like a circus wagon look. Oh and this one has a V8 so I will use all the rejected parts from the shop that the owners said were junk.......should be interesting.... or at least look interesting? Maybe I should use the word funny instead of interesting
Anyway, Ken named the red truck Lucy (being red and all) so I thought I would call this one Ethel (not as pretty but just as fun).

I would drive it just the way it is and just bag it and add the big wheels to it. Where do you find such pristine 67-68 trucks?

Re: n2billet's project 68 "Extreme Makeover" hot rod style

I have a question. ...in some of the earlier pics you have sort of old and cracked body mounts.

Can a person replace those without lifting the whole body? I would like to jack the cab up just enough to take the pressure off...cut the old bolt off , replace the rubber with new and advanced soundproofing rubber and then run a new bolt through.

Is this probable?

Tim
