Having trouble posting apparently got the chain bracket indentions filled in and the rods installed and fitted now on to closing up the holes.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Gas fill is in place, will need a large tank vent to make sure fuel flows well since the fill tube is smaller than the tanks fill.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
So I always wanted to have a dash extension but I had never seen one that I liked and nothing I ever thought or tried to mock up or anything that had come to mind that was acceptable to me, they always looked out of place, fake, square or boxy below the dash and just didnt belong I was about to just leave as it came from the factory until I saw this and decided that it would be what I do for my truck.
I think once it is finished it will look like it could have been factory and will hide the AC that you usually see hanging down below the dash anyway here is a pic of the beginnings of the modification. |

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Decided to keep the symmetry and with the top of dash, the dash is divided/split into three sections if you really look at it, instrument cluster, radio/ash tray and glove box. leaving the center section as a cubby, just wouldn't have looked as good as it will with the center filled in and I just think it will work better this way. Need to decide if I should also include the chevrolet script that was on the glove box or if that will be too much on the interior

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Progress,
Have to change the brake pedal mount, apparently the one we used is not correct for my truck the holes at the dash on the bracket are about 1/2 inch too far out Have to look into why as both pedal assemblies were from 64 and my 65. |

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Really like the tailgate handle, have a video saved that shows it on a C10. Will eventually do this mod and be rid of the chains on the paint.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
yeah I'm happy with the way it turned out but it was not as easy as some have said, there was a lot of custom work to get it in there, the handle itself was modified, the handle bucket was modified to get the handle to sit as flat as possible, as well the tailgate links, the links were actually made from two different sets to get the right geometry/angle when the tailgate is open. the latches were modified quite a bit, The tailgate had several changes to the sides it is quite a bit of cutting and clearancing to get the hard tailgate links into a factory tailgate. I'm sure I'm forgetting some of the other things we changed just to make it work.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Wow. That dash extension looks great. That's one of those ideas I wish I had thought of when I was at that stage in my build. Great work.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
I can't take credit for the idea as I saw this idea in another truck but it wasn't executed very well from what we can tell from photos, so with that hope to be able to make it look like it could have been a factory dash.
