Re: AD Truck Project

No progress on my truck. I did get some welding practice on my dads 52 chevy sedan. I finished most of the welding on the drivers side rocker panel, and making a small piece for the front of it. Then we noticed that some previous work that had been done by someone else was going to cause problems. They had replace some metal in the floor and just over lapped it. They did this right at the edge of the rocker. The repaired area what quite a bit higher and the sill plate would not lay flush. So, I cut out a piece and flattened out the big bump. Then made a piece to fill it in. Nothing spectacular, but definitely good practice to get my confidence up. No pics of said work. So, it may have never happened!

Well on the practice, that may have not happened.

Re: AD Truck Project

I still have scars on my legs from welding in shorts as a kid. At the time looked like I had been peppered with a shotgun. (had that happen once too, learned you don't steal farmers pumpkins on halloween, luckily it was just rock salt but scared the poo out of me and my friends).

Re: AD Truck Project

Nothing to really report. We have a few irons in the fire to get a stock front end to transport it either to my dads shop or my house. Really it has been too hot and humid for us to do much. If one stock axle pans out, it is about 3 miles from where my truck is, and will be dropped off this week. Fingers crossed the guy still has it.

Re: AD Truck Project

That is no joke about the heat/humidity around here lately. I had planned on three days off this week to work on my truck. More like three hours of work in the morning and thats it.

Re: AD Truck Project

There is a chance that in about 3 week my truck may be in my drive way. We did not find a stock front axle. We know where some are, but don't want to lay out in a snake infested field in 100+ weather to get one. So, we are going to make a temporary one to move it with square tubing and large casters.

The big hold up has been the heat, and my dads health being so so. He has been back and forth to a new dr up here in okc and making some small progress.

Fingers crossed.

Re: AD Truck Project

Small update thanks to one of m local buds. It looks like I will be going with a 5on5 pattern now.

So, now I need a rearend that will fit an AD that is 5on5. Maybe an 80's full size blazer? Fullsize buick or caprice? Redrilling is always an option too I guess.

I have no new pics of my stuff, but we did align some body work on my dads 52 sedan.

No bullets in the grill, 2in spindles, and a roll pan with no bumper are the current plans for the front of it.

Re: AD Truck Project

Hey,
I have a good 12 bolt diff that came out of my truck. It has 2.73 gears though. I can take some measurements if you are interested....

Re: AD Truck Project

I think they are too wide, but measurements sure wouldnt hurt.

I will probably be starting out with a turbo 350, so that rear gear probably wouldn't hurt would it?

Re: AD Truck Project

It's the same width as a full size blazer is why I mentioned it.
Do you know what size tires you are gonna run?
2.73's won't be bad at all with a non-OD trans

Re: AD Truck Project

Just off the top of my head, because this is what was on my yukon..

Like a 235 70 or 75 r15. Something around that size.

I was hoping that the blazer rearends might be narrower, kinda like some of the broncos. We have a friend with a 52 ford truck and he got a 78 bronco rearend and put some 10in slotted mags on it without have to narrow the rear.

Re: AD Truck Project

Thanks. Just been too hot and alot going on. Dad's health stuff ain't over yet, but we won't know anything for sure till after some tests next week.

I am comparing 4links from suicide doors and paul horton. I am kinda leaning towards the SD universal. I have pretty much made up my mind that whatever I win from this rc series I have been racing I am putting towards my 4link.

Re: AD Truck Project

I think the Fullsize blazers are 6 lugs, so re drilling is a must. But the 2wd fullsize pu is the right bolt pattern and like 61" outside width.

Re: AD Truck Project

Hmm that is good info. I will see what joe comes up with when he measures his rear end.

Re: AD Truck Project

Is a 73-87 half ton 10 bolt about 64inches from WMS to WMS?

Re: AD Truck Project

Sorry man
I forgot
Just measured mine.
It is 63" WMS-WMS
What T Hilde said about 6 lug is true if the blazer or truck is 4x4
Let me know if this diff will work for you.
I'll sell it to you for the "good buddy" price of $free.99

Re: AD Truck Project

I think it will work. I just cannot remember the stock width. I think it is like 60, so 1.5 inches per side shouldn't be an issue.

Re: AD Truck Project

Rearend Widths

According to the site above 60-62inches. So, I think I can get away with that rearend. My only concern is the front being too narrow.
