MARTIN had come over earlier from taking his Rottie to the vets, to take a look and learn as well.

He made a few very short video clips which will give an idea of what happens. Excuse the finesse and aspect of the clips, it is an iPhone 6 so quite technical (rofl)

The violence levels vary, and finesse is the name of the game in stretching and shrinking metal.

At this point Bob was trying to fill the holes we opened up with some of the pins, a couple took, but the rest would not seat.

So I brought out the Mig Welder, thinking that would be sensible, Martin, being the hero, who welds plate most days of the week took the welder out of our hands and proceeded to burn a hole and create a blob....... OOOOPPPS !! (OK, I admit, it was not his fault, though I would love to blame him)
After 5 years, the bottle of CO2 that Oldbus had brought me from Germany had just expired. BUGGGERR !!!
No Problemo..... Or so I thought, I have a fresh bottle of Argon/CO2 mix, specially bought for the trucks welding, just quickly change bottles and we will be back on track.

ERRRRMMM..... ?? NOPE.

So I needed an adaptor for my regulator. (suspect I have one hidden away somewhere)
I shot over to Machine Mart in Maidstone as I managed to get a 20% VAT Free discount voucher off a member on Rods n Sods to meet Martin and to do a group buy of tools we both needed.
I got an electric Impact Wrench, Oscilating DA Sander, two half packs of discs for the sander, 50 each in medium and coarse grit which Martin and I always share half and half, as well as the adaptor for my welders gas bottle.

My little pile in heaven.

Well I have taken advantage of Black Friday and ordered my carpet and rear bumper in the brothers sale. I placed an order for mine and Rian's parts as we always save if we combine shipping . We have gone for the 1967-72 rear bumper as I prefer the look

We then pay the container cost to the Uk then import duty @ 20% on the total cost so

I thought I'd put up a few pictures of some of my day job cars I work on . But it's still nice to come home and work on a proper vehicle

Hand controls fitted to enable a disabled person to be able to drive










We also had to do a Lamborghini for the gum ball 3000

This also had to have hand controls fiddled so a disabled guy could compete in the race






Best of all this was the back up vehicle



Well tonight Rian came over, to help me and my next door neighbour lift my cab onto its back. To enable me to replace the out riggers floor supports. The rust is pretty bad under the floor .

If I could offer some advice. Strip the top of you interior while you have it on its back much easier on your body.

As for my day job I go to people's homes or to dealers to adapt vehicles for disabled people . We basically adapt any car so they can drive it . That includes hand controls infa red systems so you can do all the functions with one good arm . Fitting hoists to enable to lift a chair into the back of a car or sometimes raising seats or moving them back . To a full turn out seat that rotates out of the car so it can be chalanging and rewarding as well

LOLOLOLOL!!! @ you Martin.

I hope you put some of the choice language you use when we chat while you are working and I call you for a chat into the truck as well.


Seriously though, I know the care and effort you put into your work.

And what people do not realise is that on Saturday after we get your car roadworthy tested and buy the paint and sundries for my truck, we are stopping by at Russell's to see what we can do about modifying his furniture, which is. Linked indirectly to your job. (Russell is a paraplegic fireman, injured on the job that Martin did a conversion for, and now helps with various other things that the state will not do for him)

How did last nights session with the truck go?

Well I due to the rust and the three layers of metal ie plates on the inside of the cab then plates on the underside. So basically a rust sandwich . I phoned up Brothers and ordered the outer sill with the floor section . Both sides delivered to the uk $285 + I will have to pay 5% import duty then 20% tax on top of that . Ouch . But needs must and as they take 10 days for Brothers to get I would not have gotten them to the shippers in time . So these will be coming over on a plane not a boat like the rest of mine and Rian's parts .



I picked up Rian at 6.45 am this morning to take my car for its yearly MOT inspection . He decided to come with me so we could call in a the paint supplier to get his colour matched . I also needed to get some thinners and some sanding strips for my long block .



We then called into Russels the disabled ex firefighters . I am building him a set of hand controls for his play station as he has a Nissan GTR skyliner that he takes on track days and we are trying to make a copy of the controls on the gaming chair and steering wheel set up so he can practice at home . Pictures will follow when I have finished them

The car passed its MOT it's a ford Mondeo diesel ST in the Uk it has a 2.2 ltr Jaguar engine

No problem Bret the only thing I forgot to show is if you look at the ends they are slightly higher so they rest on the inner door shut and the cross beams rest on the lip

Was planning on getting the walls up for the "Paint Booth" in the garage today.

Instead I did all the ironing (Mrs Grizz is quite ill) some other tasks like filling the in house woodbox, kindling and coal scuttle, then refilled the outside woodbox from my stash behind the garage.
Followed by raking up all the leaves on the lawn, half a wheelie bin full and then cut the grass on a medium height.
Still not ready to start on my actual task, I remembered that I needed to make 13 spacers and 13 shims for Martins friend Russell, the paraplegic ex fireman.
His furniture in his house is too low, so I offered to make some pieces to fit between the legs/feet using longer bolts.

His daily drive car is a Nissan Skyline GTR which Martin converted to full hand controls for him.

Seems he is rather capable behind the wheel as well.

It was chilly earlier, around 2'C all day down at the garage.

Found some Oak to use as it needs to be solid and structural.

Cut, measure, mark.



Then drill all the holes, including the adjustment slots



All of these will be hidden underneath the furniture.




After this I measured out the garage and removed some of my number plates where the boards will fit.

I may start tomorrow, along with putting up the Christmas tree with Nicola.

Tonight by 6pm it was -2'C BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR......

......ROAD TRIP....... !!!!

Thought it worth posting in Martin's thread too, as I had kept my plan to join him on this trip secret till this afternoon. Nicola says I torture my friends, like pulling the legs off spiders. (Anything that needs 8 legs cannot be right)

This week I won some travel vouchers at work which means I will be going to the USA on a truck and bike oriented road trip with mate Martin in October 2015.

Central to our trip is the weekend of 17th October when we will be in Fayetteville Arkansas for Clem's Old Truck Cruise In.

I spoke to Clem earlier tonight about Martin and I attending his party, and was told that we were now booked into his Vintage Airstream Trailers that have been converted to accommodation units on his property.

Coolest thing is that he lives in a 1950's Sinclair Gas Station.

The next weekend is the BikesBluesandBBQ.org show.

This falls in line with Martin's 50th birthday on the 26th.

On the trip we hope to get some spares for the trucks and meet up with friends from Leander, Texas up to Tulsa, Oklahoma and a bunch of places I between.

Early days, but early planning could see us save a few pennies to spend on beer.
