Lone Star Throwdown was the bomb! OK first of all I was not able to take the dually. The week before the show I had to go on a business trip all week and when I got home I had a cold for the whole next week. So that blew my plans for taking it! Although it was a great show I kept wanting my truck there the whole time. Here are a couple of duallies that were my favorites. The Franken mega cab dually and the Wheeler Customs dually were so cool...

It just stinks to know that I had all the parts ready to go and I could not finish it in time for this event. Oh well as a friend said there are other shows...

Dieselwrencher - Scoti nailed it above. It is a satin black, and looks really good in person. He also has a Cummins in this beast.

Here is the build page he did on Duallyscene.com . One of my all time favorite dually builds. This has inspired me so many times.

So we just got back from spring break this weekend. Had a great time with the family, but now it is time to concentrate on the truck for a couple of days!

Didn't get much done this evening, however I was able to work on the drivers side front fender some. So I got rid of the old vinyl stripe and kept metal working the small dents out. I wanted to lay a first coat of primer on it but the sun went down and that was that...

This is a distant memory but I have to ask, how did you get the stock front end to clear the fenders with the semi wheels? I always heard people have to use 3/4 ton rotors and stretched control arms. How is your turning radius when it's layed out? I'm just asking because I ordered a dropmember and it suppose to bring the wheels in 1.25" on each side...

Slim, The whole front end is stock 1 ton stuff. The main modification was moving the ball joint angle on the top arms. The other was moving the whole front end assembly forward 1.25" to clear the firewall, and center the wheel in the opening. When this truck is layed out it is on the cross member so no turning at that height can be done realistically. However when it is at ride height I can turn it lock to lock with no issues. And when I mean ride height I don't mean the thing is jacked up in the air, it is only a couple inches off the ground at that time.

I was told the same thing that you mention above that the 3/4 ton stuff and stretched arms were the only way to go, but when I mocked everything up with the 1 ton assembly I had no issues. I would like to throw some cautions into this discussion: 1. I heavily modified the AC unit at the firewall so it would not rub, 2. Moving the front end forward is better (I think) than tubing the firewall.

Yes that helps. I will achieve most of the front end changes that you made with the dropmember but I'll have to see what happens about the track width being taking in 1.25" on each side by it so fingers crossed...

Also I hear on duallyscene that with the 3/4 ton axle with four semis in the rear will fit under the stock fenders without any mods but you had to have yours shaved and you said it left you with 1/2" of space. I'm hoping these fit without having to shave them, I'm tired of messing with wheels

Long time no work on my dually! No excuses, I have been dirt bike riding and traveling for work a ton lately. So that takes up all my free time.

Tonight I actually got back into the shop. I did one of the projects that I have been dreading, the air ride valve... I got the replacement valve a couple of months ago and it has been sitting in it's box ever since. So I pulled it out and exchanged it for the old valve. Some small hassles but they were minor, and now we should be up and running. I kept the factory adjustable outlet swivels. They allow me to trim the air down and have better control over how fast I want a particular bag to raise. This should help me fine tune the system.

We are going to lay down some primer on the panels that are finished and ready. Every time lately I have gone out to spray we have either have had rain (weird for West Texas) or the winds have kicked up. Hopefully Saturday will be semi calm and we can get some work done. I have continued to do some of the body work when time permitted, so I wasn't totally abandoning my project.

Finally got some primer on the drivers front fender. Still have some additional bodywork to complete on it, but it is coming along.

Bolted it up to check fitment. The gaps are horrible. So it looks like once I get all the bodywork completed I will spend endless days working on the gaps. Ah well if it was easy... :P

I did drag the truck out last weekend to go to a local show. It was just down the street from the house. So we threw it on the trailer to see what the locals thought. Fun stuff!

For those of you who have been following along on this build you know how far this truck has come, and I only feel it is half way! Ah well back to the grind stone!

This is what I have been doing in the shop lately. Building this for my daughters wedding reception. Her grandmother is going to be doing all the cooking for the reception and she said that if I got this done we would do Texas BBQ. Yes!

OK we did a ton of work on the smoker this past weekend! We did the first burn and it was so hot (which is exactly what we wanted, to cook out all the old tank junk) it flaked all the old paint off. I just took a wire brush and cleaned all the remaining paint off after that.

After it cooled down I finished putting all the small items on the tank. Things like chains for the pins so we would not lose them in transit, the front swing out tables latch pins, and pins and tabs for the cutting boards. Just a ton of small work, but it all takes time... Then I shot two coats of Rustoleum high temp fire pit paint (you can get it now at Home Depot in quarts) on it. Allowed it to dry over night.

I put the smoker on the frame of one of my donor trucks for the time being. I have all the parts to make a new trailer for it, but just ran out of time before the wedding. The last thing we have to do is bring it up to temp one more time and coat the inside with peanut oil which will season it just like a cast iron frying pan.

I hope you enjoyed this smoker build. Thanks for being patient on my dually build. Now I will return to getting my truck finished!

That's awesome! I need to build a smaller version some day. It would be pretty cool to leave the smoker on the truck like that as a mobile rig. Haha

OK I'm back! The wedding is all done, daughter is now married, and dad is back on the dually!!

I got to thinking over the past couple of weeks about the rear suspension. I am going to install a 4 link from Thorbros. I saw some of there stuff at a show early this year and was very impressed with the workmanship. So in a week or two I am going to order it. In the mean time I am going to be prepping the rear to accept the new 4 link. Should be interesting.

I cannot tell you how happy I am being back in the shop playing with my truck.
