You won't. Just put that side down and get that side as tight to the bead as possible, then put your lighter fluid around the back side of the bead and make fire. haha.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

Coach, lightly spray some soapy water on the bead of the tire and rim. Stand behind the tire, hold the tire near the top, and take your foot an push on the center of the the rim. Do this all the way around. You won't be able to seat it but try to get the tire to stick on the bead. Keep it verticle, turn it around, and lean it backward slightly so the the rim tends to fall toward the rear. Try to put air in it with one hand while pushing the rim toward the rear. Push it from the center. If it comes loose from the rear bead, repeat until it works, LOL. I mounted my cokers a couple of weeks ago on eight inch rims, so it can be done at home.
I'v heard of the fire method, never tried it though. I paid $980 for my tires so I would not be comfortable trying that..

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

After some carb cleaner and some fire (on the backside of the tire) the rears seated easily.

Bolted them on and am ready to rock and roll.

First impression......wow they look awesome.

Second impression....damn they look tall. 28" with 40 PSI in them......about 1" taller than advertised.

Love the look though. Still waiting on my Shannon cones.

Measurements show I will need some wheel spacers to clear the box sides. Probably 2" to fill up the wheel well as much as possible.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

By the way, even though I've got a Task Force remind me what your lowering setup is? Did you have all new leaf spring packs with a 3" (?) Sid's dropped axle? Or are your spring packs "lowering" springs?

Partly the reason I'm asking is today I (embarrisingly admit) I noticed I've got 5 leaves on my driver's side but 6 leaves on my passenger's side.....and it sits level!! So something's gotta change.

Front is stock springs with 2 leafs removed and a 4" Sid's axle.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

Coach, hope you don't mind a couple more questions?
On the forward end of my front leaves, the shackles have some rubber that; for lack of a better description, is "squishing" out. I assume this rubber was (???) in between the pin and the shackle to isolate vibration? Do you know what these are called? Ate thes parts that require the leaf pack to be removed in total so they can be pressed in? Or could I simply support the leaf pack end with my floor jack, remove the pin with a hammer & punch and replace this...whatever its called?

Sorry to kinda hijack. I hope you don't mind.

Coach, your build is coming along great! Thank you for all the step by step pictures and descriptions. I am currently starting a build with a 3800 along the same lines, only I am shortening it to a short bed. I hope mine turns out this good.

Mike,

I was looking at the pictures of the truck on all 4. Are you happy with the rake or is that changing?
