Man that is brutal, there is a total lack of respect for others property these days. But the level of car theft is unbelievable. Takes the fun out of using your rod.

Sorry to disappoint you Lowdownstar, but I can't stand that red oxide primer. I am going to paint it Audi Papaya Orange. That's why the truck is torn all apart right now coz I'm doing metal work and prepping it for paint. Now your ride can still look shinny and some flash and not be a show truck. I get very lazy about polishing stuff I don't wipe it down everytime I drive it some where. But even dirty it still looks like a vehicle that is being taken care of. Well I guess you live in a gr8 place where people respect each others property. But the few places I have dared to take my truck and walk away, I come back and find some one looking at it or walking around it looking at it. That's good attention but not all people that look want to leave it at that. I mean no disrespect but I think you my have a false sense of security when you say, ("so i can take it any where and not worry about it" ) Your truck looks good now just the way it sits. It's EYE CANDY right now. And your future plans are only going to make your truck more desirable. (BY THE WAY those wheels on your truck are so awesome I love those wheels) As Kabwe says if you like your ryde a lot you can be sure someone else likes it just as much and may want to do more then just admire it. Don't be discouraged you do your truck exactly how you want and enjoy it, but keep a watchful eye out for it. I disable my ignition/battery system even at a show or cruise nite. My 68 Pontiac Tempest wagon I drive a lot but I am always close by. My vehicles still might get stolen but I try to make it harder for the thief. They are gonna have to work for it. There are too many stories where custom/classics/ modified /hotrods/ muscle cars get stolen coz somebody got comfortable and let their guard down. Even when you are on top of your game they can still take your stuff. I have a friend when he works on his race car or his buddies race cars while in his garage which faces the street he keeps his roll away gate closed and his AK-47 on the work bench. It's the Wild Wild West out here. That's not to brag it's a fact of life. I have friends whose garage doors were snatched off with chains and a truck and their tools stolen, a friend of a friend story where the guys family got there '57 Chevy stolen at an intersection at gun point. At Los Angeles Trade Technical College when I was attending there back in the day, we parked our cars bumpers touching bumpers to make it harder to steal while in class. LOL, BUT THE FREAKIN THIEVES one late night still managed to get the roll-away tool chest in Diesel Shop when they took a unattended engine hoist and transmission sitting in the repair yard and used it as a battering ram, knocking a big hole in the wall, climbed in & opened the roll up doors and rolled the students tool chest out into a big truck. My neighbors son driving his '96 SS Impala was stopped by some thugs at gun point demanding he get out of the car, he refused saw the cops near by burned rubber got the cops attention the thugs got caught as he drove off.
THE PICTURES BELOW ARE EXAMPLES OF WHAT GOT STOLEN. THE 1ST PICTURES OF A 1934 Ford 3-Window coupe that was recovered. That is a picture of it I took at the 2009 18th California Hot Rod Reunion @ Famoso Raceway. The second car a ’32 Ford Roadster did not have a happy ending as far as I know. It was at the hotel parking lot next door to the Los Angeles County Fairplex (Pomona) Grand national Roadster Show.
Here are their stories:
1934 Ford 3-Window coupe
BREAKING: $250,000 stolen hot-rod has been found, arrest made
http://auto.ocregister.com/2011/01/0...st-made/49038/

’32 Ford Roadster
http://www.streetlegaltv.com/news/32...roadster-show/
Whatever happened to the male credo, “Never $%#@ with a man’s car?” It’s a horrible trend, but it would seem that hot rods are no longer safe in Southern California. The continuing rash of car thefts of really nice, really *****in’ hot rods has flared up again, but in the worst of spots, the 2011 Grand National Roadster Show. Stolen from the hotel owner Chick Koszis was staying at, a lead-footed, sticky-fingered thief ran off with this pristine ’32 roadster.
Also, you can follow the Stolen Hot Rod Alert page on Facebook.

Here's that link I mentioned Stolen Hot Rod Alert

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Stolen...60810187275487

http://www.hubgarage.com/mygarage/we...es/blogs/26325

The picture below I took in 2008 when I was visiting in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I guarantee you the owner(s) of this '55 with the open windows is very close by. Maybe it's the guy in the white cap checking me out taking a picture of the car. I promise you if I were a thief and attempted a move on that car I would have been on the 11 o'clock news, "man shot trying to steal a classic car"

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

I hope you know i mean no disrespect at all of your truck being in primer or that you want to put shinny paint! I love shinny paint and i love show trucks and cars and bikes. I just think it's cool even with out all the fancy paint, but i am sure it's going to be even cooler with it. I had a 72 mustang that was keyed that had a custom paint job! So i am going to see how the other guys live with this truck for now, and i am sure someday i'll get back to the shinny paint! I can't understand how people can be so stupid to mess with a mans car, that is just not right! Here in mass, well i should say western mass things haven't gotten that bad yet, i've heard it's bad in the eastern part of the state ( boston), but don't know for sure. What is this world coming too that a person can't enjoy something he's work so hard on and loves so much that some jerk thinks it's ok to mess with. That is just wrong! I feel for you guys and pray no one is that stupid to mess with your truck! I am also look forward to watching you build it and adding that cool new paint. I hope it turns out just the way you want it too.

Thanks Ray

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

Sorry to get off the post topic, but Ray your truck rocks, reminds me of Lance Sorchik's '34 Ford Coupe 'Jersey Suede' he had hot pink for the interior. Primers finer, but my feeling is we all want gloss show paint, we're just not going to wait for it before we drive our rides. For me I'd never get behind the wheel, I'd be too old to rock my truck. So I don't look below the doors, cuz that's where the ugly is. Here's Sorchik's car, he arguably started the suede deal in the late 80's. This car is total porn.

Oh and BC thanks for showing us how to fix the ugly bits.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

Thanks for the kind words 65 pickup. I am looking forward to spring and driving it.

Thanks Bc for your kind words as well, i like the truck the way it is for now and i'll be happy to drive it this way. For me i think it's because it's been so long sense i've had a hot rod that if it moves and make noise i'll be happy! I have some work to do before it's road ready. i just picked up a rear fender and a winshield for the truck, the glass was new but the fender needs work. I don't have your talent BC with body work so it's not so easy for me! As for the wheels, i am not sure they are going to stay on the truck, i was thinking rally wheels, but that is a long way down the road and i am sure i will change my mind 10 times before i do anything. Enough about my truck your the man and it's your build plus i love to see your work, you do some killer body work, god i wish i had your talent!

i can't believe that car was stolen from the Grand national Roadster Show! That is just crazy!

Thanks again BC

Ray

ps i like the Audi Papaya Orange

Thanks for the compliments but I am not so sure it's talent, it's more like " I don't have a choice, I gotta get this done coz I aint got no money to pay some one to do it" I'm not that thrilled about painting my truck coz my confidence level is not really all there. Again $$$ is a factor so I am doing it myself. I painted my Pontiac and now I'm painting my daily driver, trying to get as much practice in before I paint my truck. Don't sell yourself short. Take small steps tackle something on the truck you normally would not do yourself and take your time don't let your thoughts overwhelme you. If you want to weld you can teach yourself, plenty of stuff in books at Home depot and the internet/You Tube. And very knowledgable people here. Have you seen Kim 57's truck? You gotta check out his stuff it's amazing I think he is going to run Rallies on his. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=283107 I know you mentioned ealier you are not building a show truck, but when you get into it, you can't help but pay attention to detail. You'll see, lol. I can't help it there are things I am doing that only I will be able to see but I won't be happy unless it's done to my satisfaction. The small stuff adds up and it shows in the over all project. I know it sounds dumb but I have lost sleep sometimes thinking about how to tackle a certain problem, I'm sure most of the folks on here have all ready done that even the big name shops. Speaking of big names did you see IronWorks latest project completed ?

Car gone lesson learned.

A friend of mine took his car to a show and walked away to look at cars and when he came back a guy was sitting in the passenger seat and had his kid in the driver seat playing speed racer. Man my buddy blew his top it was bad. The guy did not understand why my buddy was mad. It seems respecting other people property is a thing of the past.

Another friend just had his 56 truck painted and took his daughter to the mall and when he came out someone had keyed his truck just to be evil.

There is a guy on this forum that said they stole his project. Took it out his drive way while his wife was home and she did not hear a thing that's how fast and slick they were.

Man I grew up in the LA car culture and can't nobody tell me nothing is childish about taking care of my s*it, I know nobody else is going to take care of it but me.

If I need to leave a car unattended that's what my new cars are for. I could less about them they are easily replaced.

So I will be childish and still have my car thank you very much.

Yea Bud.. I was talking about me.
I'm the childish guy who does that.
It's bad everywhere.
On the '60's side there have been alot of guys trucks stolen.
We all have to be on alert.
The reason why I am so cautious with my truck is because I had some incidents happen to me which tore me slap up. Guy sitting on the bed of my truck drinking beer talking to one of his buddys. One Guy sitting in my seat messing around. Another guy rocking my truck back and forth for some stupid reason. One guy messing around under my hood.
Have to get up in thier grill and tell them the meaning of respecting peoples personal property.
Have to go Brock on them!

This has happened to my dads car as well. People leaning in moving personal stuff around. Scratches on his car. He even had a kid spill ice cream on his car and the father wiped some of it off with a paper towl. The left over ice cream baked into the clear coat.
How he find out? The guy right beside him told him before he left. Said oh yea.... Some kid dropped ice cream on your car. The guy seen it happen and figured it wasn't his car he didn't give a rats @$$. You have to watch everyone because we live in a sick and evil world with people with "It's all about me! I don't care about you complex."
Everybody wants what you have. Something for nothing.
It's sad. It would be nice just to get out and enjoy your ride you slaved over and spent alot of money on.
So that's why when my father and I are at carshows/crusins or anywhere in our vechicles it's Homeland Security Threat Level Red.

All you guys have nice rides on here.
I keep'in an eye on this Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

Sorry I misunderstood you man I thought you called me childish. I see you know what I'm talking about.

The last show I took my 55 210 to a girl and a some guy were standing near it talking. I had my back turned to them and the guy I was talking to all of a sudden got this evil look in his eyes and yelled " Hey this is carshow the the **ll are you doing". Man I turned around to see what was going on and this girl had put her coffee cup on the hood of my car while she was talking. Man I went off (it was bad BC knows how I can get) and jump in my car and took off because I felt my anger was too hard to contain. My car has not been to a car show since. I prefer it that way because I found I enjoy shows much more when I'm just a looky loo. I will go to cruise ins and meet and greets because those or mostly car guys and girls. But car shows have too many civilians (lol) who don't understand its more than just a old car to me.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

I guess you and me are in the same boat BC i don't have the money to pay someone else to do my truck either. I just need to grow a set of balls and just do it, and not worrie if i scew it up, because as one guy once said to me that is why they make welders! You mess it up you weld it up! and do it again! I am ok with the welding part i did that for the navy, (20 years ago) but i still can stick the metal together. lol the parts today are just so much money, and even the paint or sand paper, everything is just so high, even doing it yourself is not cheap! I guess that is why it's like 10,000 to paint a truck if you have someone else do it. For me i am going to try and do as much as i can, and i thank god for this forum and all the great people on here who are more then willing to help, like yourself. Thanks again for your help and insight, you can tell you are a hard worker and they type of person who takes pride it what he does. It shows in your truck and how nice you are to the people here on the forum. BC where do you buy your parts? i want to install a front bumper on the truck but i don't want to buy a ****ty one.

Thanks Ray

No Problem Bud.
Yea, I met alot of guys and we see each other at alot of car shows/crusins. So we have a little system we developed together. You watch mine and I watch yours when we grab a bite to eat or to the bathroom. After talking to them you kinda tell what kind of person they are and can trust them. I am so car crazy. I love Pro/Streets, Hot Rods, Street Rods, Muscle cars, Rat Rods, Classic Cars and Trucks, and even tractors! And last but not least DRAG RACING!

I only have Puyallup Good Guys experience, but I find the people at these are all respectful. Probably because everyone has to pay to get in, so Joe Public usually isn't there. Joe likes the free show that you and I paid to put our car in, for Joe and Jill Public to abuse.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

That is so true 65pickup! Free shows can get crazy not to say that the paid ones are perfect, but they are much better!

1bad62prostreet thanks for the cool pic's!

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

I heard an Adam Corolla bit, he raves about this self obsessed generation that we are experiencing. They are all looking for the 'also ran award', they never had to compete and now the real world has to shape them into productive human beings. None of us are willing to blow smoke up their a$$ and they don't get it. Hard work is all that matters, good things come to those that earn it.

Did you say Tractors? Like.... you know... the pulling kind ....hehe....me 2. Here's a link to my Tactor/truck pull/monster truck pics http://www.flickr.com/photos/7552532...7603426652886/ also thought you might like this too.....

This always puts a smile on my face

Thanks Ray
I have had my truck so long there was a time I could get parts at the local wrecking yard, then specialized truck yards, now I get stuff from E-BAY, The Truck Shop/Car Shop, No Limit Engineering, (once upon a time Golden State Pick Up Parts), LMC Truck. Jegs, Summit Racing, SpeedWay. I think you'll get a good deal on your bumper from LMC Truck. I think it's a little less then the other places, maybe someone else on here knows of a better deal.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

Sorry it took so long to respond to you Lowdownstar. I haven't stop working on the truck just doing a lot of different stuff, but nothing worth taking pictures of. Also just been real busy with family life and changes. Had to move my mom in, she can no longer live by herself. It's been a little hard for her not being totally independant.
Here are some update pics of the rear cab corners ( replacment of right ride side cab corner) and some other stuff I am doing. I painted the dash and took the column out and painted it. I just bought a '67 El Camino for another project but won't start on that until I finish my truck. I couldn't pass it up coz the price was right. I have a motor and trans for it but don't want to go into details right now. It's going to be way more involved then my truck. I will post some pictures later.
