Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA
It would be a good truck. The only problem is that it is on a 78 frame. The bed has been cut down....notice how the rear wheels don't fit correctly inside the wheel wells?
For the purists, it would not be a desired truck. The body mounts are home fabbed, probably solid. The steering has been modified...potential problems there. It would be better to make a 4x4 with an original frame and at least keep it period correct. Not to say a frame swap is bad....just what I would do if I had to.

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA
It looks like a lwb but its a cool toy but thats it, ive had friends buy mud trucks to drive daily and they all turn out to be money pits, i like 4x4 but id like a 2wd swb if i could find one but my lwb 3/4 ton has sentimental value my dad found it and helped me make a deal and loaned me the money, and helped me get it running good and driving. I wouldnt sell it for double what its worth. I love it

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA
I paid 750 for mine, if its all there and a swb thats a good deal, even at 850, ive only had the opportunity to buy one swb in my price tange for 1800 and it had major issues so the one you want seems like a good deal, its not that hard to install a motor/ trans

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA
What you could always do is buy the truck as cheap as possible and then do some cosmetic repairs on it and sell it for a profit to afford a truck more like what you want. Often people post ads on craigslist and spell things wrong or take bad pictures which can take away from the interest they get on a certain vehicle and you can capitalize on their error and make some money. Just an idea

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA
Yeah Jeff that is what I was thinking..I have a friend with that Green 1972 GMC here.I believe he hauled it here.. and he told me he would give me a gmc grille to put on my own truck..I am sure he would help me put everything in it
If I do get it, I would like to put a bench seat into it...Is there a way I could dye the door panels to light blue ?

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA
Yes you can dye them whatever color you want most auto parts stores sell the dye itll be with the paint. also alot of the times the bucket seats are aftermarket so the holes for a bench seat might be there if so its as simple as unbolting the buckets and putting the bench in, but even if they are stock it shouldnt be too hard just measre the mounting brackets drill holes and bolt it down ive seen it done with a bolt cuople washers and a nut but you could had weld nuts welded in, dont think any reinforcong is necessary with a bench seat only buckets

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA
Yeah I dont think they Bucket seats are Stock man Lol
I just worry that the Truck may not run like it should ? I can get good tires for basically Free from a Friend I would attempt to put a GMC front on it..Replace the Chevy Emblems with GMC ones...Take the ugly Bucket seats out and put a Bench.. Get a white top and blue body paint job :// I want it, but Im a little scared of getting into something I can not get out of But yeah could I put a wood-grain panel on the blue door ?

My advice is figure out what you want to do, Save some money up to buy what you want assuming you won't get your grandpas truck back. When you are ready to pull the trigger, don't jump on the first truck you find and be prepared to negotiate on the phone or in person. I hope you find a job and a truck. For now, just soak up all the knowledge from this board you can...

Re: Looking for my Grandfathers 1971 GMC SIERRA
You will miss out on a lot of good advice and also deals in this hobby if you stick to texting only. One-on-one communication is a dying art. Hang out with some old folks and watch how they talk to each other. You have to be able to convey respect, humor, empathy and understand it as well. Do that and you will open doors...trust me!
I always call first on parts and trucks unless is says text only. When somebody texts me about an entire truck I'm selling I know they're not serious. When they text me an offer I always say "come and see it first". 99.9% of the time you never hear from them again.
