Well it was 105 degrees today and the fan was stuck in the back of the shop so we gave up at about 5. We got the truck out and pressured washed in order to clean it up for paint then hand dried before paint was applied. I love mixing this paint because of the colors in it and the pearl makes for a beautiful shade even in the can. Tomorrow my dad, uncle, Grandpa, and I are going to be putting the bed on the frame and lay the wood and strips in so that we can begin to get everything bolted on and ready for paint. It's almost back together and I can't wait to see paint covering this thing.

i thought you had sunset orange
i like that color but im not sure why

is that custom mixed
the owner at the bodyshop we get our paint at always mixes it for us

Yeah it's a slightly custom mix. Added a little more gold pearl. But man, I can't wait to spray the whole thing.

Went to the shop today and got the wood in and put the bed on the truck. We pulled the bed back off so that we could reach some of the bolt's that were impossible to get to due to the frame, exhaust, etc. Now all we have to do is fix the scratches on the rear of the cab and the front of the bed. Also the spots we sprayed yesterday still need to be cleared. I love the stain that I chose in comparison to the SOM and I think I'm just going to leave the wood covered with the unglossed Thompson's because I love the combo. What do you guys think?

And the bed is covered in dust so that's why the color looks strange and not glossed.

I think it will be cool. You'll know for sure when it's all painted. You can really see the quilted look on them in those pics.

I used a Cabot wood stain called Australian Timber Oil. They have it in a few colors but mine is what they call Mahogany Flame. It's a beautiful oil stain that contains Linseed oil, Alkyd Oil, and South American Tung oil. I did about 3 coats with wiping in between and only allowed enough time between wiping to finish the rest of the boards before beginning to wipe the one I started with. I'm very pleased with the result though. After the stain was finished, I coated the boards front, back, and sides twice with Clear Thompsons.

Yeah I know. I might go with a can of Helmsmans Varnish but I love that it keeps the beauty of the wood somewhat subtle and that certain things such as the quilting are shown in different light.

I'm lucky to be able to capture this in a picture because I know that one day I would have ended up hating myself if I had not. Most of us who now have a truck that was always in the family or that know what it would feel like, would understand this picture. Unfortunately I was snapping the picture but this is my dad, my grandpa, and my uncle at the shop today.

I lost a Grandmother, and 3 Uncles within a 2 Year Span! Thats 4 on my family members on my Dads side of the family! It has made my faith in Christ even more Stronger! Me and my dad are even closer now than we were. Just made me think just now. I need to take more pics of me and my father working out in the shop. He on his Rambler, and I on my '62.

Haha. Agreed man. Within 4 months my grandpa lost his wife to cancer and his mother to leukemia. That was about 5 years ago. But family is one of those things that's very important to me and always has been.
