I used that one for mock up to see how i'd like a stock wheel...didn't paint that one though because I really like the patina on it as is for a blue truck or interior...

I have two other 67 wheels (after selling one this week) so I picked the nicest other one I had to paint it...it was actually fawn at one point but had glossy red painted over it at some point (not well) so there were runs/chips in it...tried to strip but it was going to take the fawn off too...

I use Krylon now instead of rustoleum. They also have a rust preventer one but dries in minutes, not days.

thanks, I have used some krylon but really like the hammered finish rustoleum for frames...

I will say on satin black I Really like the krylon sheen so on future projects I'll definitely go that route...easy enough to pick up from Wally world...scary thing is...I have TWO of them within 5 minutes of my house....and I believe 8 of them within a half hour...almost getting like McDonalds

Probably would have used Krylon on this one but I had some leftover cans of rustoleum from my shoestring build...

Yes...the old one had like 456 gears in it....this is a 307 or 323....was great on the highway....plus has all new wheel cylinders, brake lines, shoes, etc on it...

Holy smokes 456 gears! That thing would have been a tire burner
I understand now, you dont want a drag strip gear for a parts truck it makes total sense, I just wish I would have known it had a 456 gear in it because then I wouldnt have asked the question in the first place.
Oh I'm always up late, I'm a night owl.

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

Plus, I'm running the original 6 lug steelies with caps. Also the rear is slightly wider so the wheels aren't too far tucked in looking for my liking....earlier narrower rears are nice for running deep dish rims, but not with stock wheels
If I ever switch to 5 lug I will either do conversion axles....or more likely I will swap in a complete 5 lug posi rear.

I didn't think you caught that! I tossed and turned until 4 in the morning! I had a busy mind and couldn't sleep. I'm working on 3 hours of sleep today.

Glad to see the trans 'member came and and good thing its not raw...one less thing to paint! Cross your fingers that engine/trans installation goes smoothly!

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

I haven't pulled the rear or anything but the previous owner told me he couldn't drive it on the highway and around town it was screaming so I had to assume big gears....plus, I wasn't having any success selling my longbed frame as a roller and knowing it had all new components in the rear and knowing I was going to take the rear apart to add lowering blocks, shock relocators, and paint everything individually anyways, it just made sense to swap...

Sounds like good motivation! If I was closer, I would stop in to swing a wrench too.

Re: Project#2 67-72 Restoration's Shop truck

Dimpled the frame for ps earlier....also working on the trac bar and shock mount install...

Put my battery on the charger and it's already reading 12.5 so I'm not going to charge it....I have it handy if needed but should be good to start up....
