Thanks...can you post that in the FS ad

They are nice. Not perfect because there's an area that is faded on the speedo lettering. But really nice.

I have a line on an entire set of NOS gauges I'm planning on for my super

I already have a perfect tach lens and 80lb oil pressure saved up for it.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

Alright....opinion time....

I have a preference but want to see what you guys think. The truck has 7" rally wheels now (pictured). Looking for 8's.

Two options I've considered are the rally wheels with caps and the smaller rings (with BFG raised white letter tires) Note both sets of tires are old used ones...
And note on the caps they are nice rechromed originals that need new stickers.

or...factory small white line tires with the deluxe wheel covers it would have originally have come with.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

I've never been a big fan of P02's, but since you're doing the all stock thing it would look pretty cool. On the other hand, I'm not a big fan of the ralleys because they're not "correct".

I looked at you SPID again and it doesn't state anything. Were P02's an option? If so, what was stock?

Whatever you go with, you could always mention you have the others available if preferred. That way you cover whatever the buyer might want.

If you don't like those or rally wheels, what do you like?

Steelies and caps for stock look. Every car/truck ive owned I put mags on. I don't leave them stock for long, but I've never done a complete stock rest either.

From all the pictures I've seen it would have had the full wheel covers...

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

Since this is completely a stocker restoration, with all NOS parts, I would go with the original style wheels and caps. Anyone spending the kind of money you are expecting will not have a problem replacing them if that's what they want, but finding good originals may be harder to find.

Is your truck going to be stock ride height?

I was going to suggest 7 and 8 inch ralley wheels with a nice 4.5/6 drop.
That may not work with NOS stock look you are going for.

It's going to be stock height. I prefer the 4.5/6 drop (or lower) but many don't. Next owner can drop it if they want.

It's not going to be completely stock. Basically looking to do a Stock style resto with a little extra "curb appeal"

Gloss frame, silver accents in the suspension, shiny underhood, a little extra polish overall than stock would have been. But still lots of NOS parts and nice rebuilt original parts.

I myself dislike the rallys and id perfer the stock caps on a truck like this. That is just my 2.56433 cents worth..

Not everybody

Seems most prefer the stockers but I personally really like the rally wheels....and the last set of NOS stock wheel covers I saw sold for almost $1000....

I think it's going to be rally wheels and the next owner can put stock wheels or whatever else on. I mean, why spend 1000 on the stock covers only to find out the next owner plans to drop it and put 20's on it

And by the way...Jerry Brown and CSM use some sort of rally wheel on their BB SWB Super trucks that bring somewhere between 40-70K.....

I wanted to note I really do appreciate everyone's time they took to note their opinion!!!

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

A small setback today when the sandblaster showed up (well before he even came) the price went up and he wasn't even doing as much....his buddy talked him out of doing all he was going to do saying he wouldn't make enough....

So.....

I'm just going to finish up the rest of the work by hand. It'll save me enough to afford to buy the complete new shortbed that is ready to paint.

Now my only decision is metal floor or wood

I'm thinking wood since it's going to be a show truck....and stain the wood to match the interior and exterior woodgrain!!!

But that'll add another week or so to the project....so I don't know.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

Well, I just did an unscientific scan through eBay to see what trucks $20K and up are doing, and the ralley's are the most popular, followed by mags. The $40K truck had mags, but there were a lot of mods to that truck. Only found one with P02's.

Thanks for checking. That's basically what I've seen.
And I don't necessarily expect to sell it on ebay. Most of the higher sellers have been sold at shows like Super chevy or carlisle....thinking maybe the Carlisle truck nats will be a good place if it's not sold by then....

I guess I should just worry about getting it done first

I'm going to try to get the truck over to Jason's tomorrow or Tuesday.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

eBay is just an easy place to research, especially SOLD prices. I think you've got the right idea on where to sell it.

I'll be glad when you're done with your parts gathering phase. Maybe the rest of us can have a shot at some NOS pieces.

Pretty much done on the NOS stuff!

....well...except for what's headed my way this week and the grille, steering wheel,....

Actually have about 95% of all the parts to put this truck together between NOS, perfect or almost perfect used, and bead blasted nice used parts. And a few repops....just a few
