i got a little more done this weekend.rear bag mounts completely welded,c notches completely welded,and all the suspension stuff in the rear painted with box liner.then i got the rear bags hooked up,pan hard bar installed,made a cool large grommet for the firewall where the front clip wiring goes through.and tonight i was able to get my wheels on,hook up the valves and made the whole truck go up and down a few times.good to finally be at that stage.because i had to raise the body up a little more then what i planned,it doesnt quite sit on the rockers but its pretty close

im back in action.after so many things holding me back from working on the ol girl i finally got some things done.hood is now in high build ready to be blocked,today i painted the drive shaft,installed new u joints and installed the shaft,installed all new emergency brake cables,e brake shoes,axle brake lines,rear calipers with pads,rear rotors,front rotors,and front calipers with pads.in the end the hand brake worked out perfect.i should have some pics tomorrow.

no pics today guys.i just spent from lunch time until dark trying to bleed the stupid f*#^in abs brake system.man its frustrating.im to the point now of just ditching the abs unit.i can pressure the rear brakes for bleeding but cant get any pressure for the fronts.i tried everything.i think its losing pressure inside the abs unit.any one have any ideas? keep in mind the system is from the 01 sierra i used a a donor truck.and it was completely drained for sand blasting and paint.also all new lines.any one?

Maybe a new ABS unit? Have you tried backwards bleeding the system?

i have had this happen before with gm abs brakes. Usually i open all the bleeders and leave the cap off the master cylinder for 30 minutes to an hour. Keep an eye on it so it does not run out of fluid. After that i close everything up and have someone pump the brake real slow and steady until there is some pedal the bleed each wheel normally just pump the brake slow each time. If you push the pedal fast or there is a bubble in the abs block it closes a valve in the abs block.

so i guess i need a GM scan tool to bleed the abs.so for now i just went with a t fitting for the front brakes.it was enough to get the truck into the car shelter i bought.i have been really busy the last little while so didnt get a whole lot done.but i do have the pics i promised a while ago.

its been a while since i have dropped in here.been so busy lately i haven't been able to pick up a wrench. thanks again for more comments fellas.in the new year my buddy is going to let me move back into his garage so i can finish it up.as for hinges in going to install some in the back.they will be custom.

and for the center console i will try to think back and give you a step by step.it was actually quite easy to build.hardest part was getting the right measurement for the shifter and hand brake holes.

1st step...i got my measurements of the length and height i needed to work with and cut a rectangle out of thin press board with that measurement.you could use cardboard.

2nd step...i trimmed the rectangle at the rear to fit the back of the cab perfect and the front to fit up to the underside of my dash.

3rd step...i had an idea of the shape and just marked out the flat lines of the place where the shifter would stick through then the step up where the arm rest would be.then just traced circles from various things laying around to get the flow i needed.


4th step...after cutting the shape out of the press board i traced in onto sheet metal (18ga) then cut it out (make both sides the same)

5th step...i used 1 inch wide x 1/8 thick flat bar on its edge and tack welded it to the whole top edge of the side pieces.this is where the top sheet metal will set on for sturdiness and will give a backing for welding the seams

6th step... i just figured out how wide i needed the console and used a soft measuring tape to see how long i would have to cut the top sheet metal to cover the top.

7th step... once the top was cut i began to get a rough shape of where i needed to bend it to fit to the sides.i just laid it against the side and marked where one bend had to be,bent it over my thigh (crude but it worked) then kept moving onto the next bends.

8th step..i worked with one side and the top and tacked it from one end to the other.this is where you lay the edge of the top on the side flat bar.as your tacking and shaping small taps with a body hammer helps get it into place.then repeat with the other side.



9th step.... tack weld both seams on each side every 2 inches apart until its all welded.dont let it get too hot or it will warp.once done use a flap disc to buff and round the edges.


10th step...install it in place and carefully drill holes where you want to mount it to the floor .i welded 1/4 thick flat bar tabs drilled and tapped to thread a 1/4 bolt into.worked great.but im sure sheet metal screws would do also

11th...cut holes for gauges/shifters/switches/nitrous bottles/cup holders ect then body fill/prime/paint and enjoy


and to be honest once your into it its not that hard at all.

Thanks. It seems simple enough. I've never welded before, but I'm taking your advice from an earlier response. You said just buy a cheap mig welder and go after it. So I'm gonna do just that. Thanks again and good luck with the rest of the build.

Great project. You have done a mountain of work in a pretty short period of time. It won't be long now.

I am doing a similar color combo with my stepside. Satin black with a maroon interior.

it was a ton of work in a short time.but it made for a great winter.that color combo should be great.i find it really makes the red pop out
