Re: Lets see your truck!
Kind of. The tranny shop drove the truck and says the transmission is acting normally (shifting, etc). They blame low power by the engine for the lack of acceleration. So, now we're trying the engine route. I spoke with the prev engine owner who said it was running like a top 1 year ago, making 13lbs of vacuum. We were only getting 7lbs of vacuum. We added a fuel pressure reg to reduce the fuel pressure from 13psi to 6.5psi (as per the prev engine owner's recommendations). Still, we could not get the quick fuel 680 carb running properly (kept flooding, using a ton of fuel so we installed a Holley 750.
The holley 750 definitely helped the drivability. It's making more vacuum now too. It'll burn rubber in most of 1st gear now but only feels like about 300hp when it should be making 430hp (according to the prev engine dyno). It was burning rubber through 1st and 2nd in the Chevelle it was in before with the same trans and gear setup I have now. I'm having the truck tuned at a fancy engine place today (unlimited performance, calgary) to the tune of $150/hr....Hopefully the extra ~130hp is hidden in the tuning/timing/jets and it'll be all sorted out in a few days. It sounds freaking awesome at least. There was snow on the ground this weekend so the road-time is about over for the year. I'll have to just look at it in the warm garage over the winter.

Re: Lets see your truck!
Great looking truck. It caught my eye, because it looks a lot like one I just picked up a few weeks ago. My dad had a 1972 GMC, blue, that he bought new. My first vehicle was a 1972 chevy, originally yellow and white but someone had painted it a deep red. I traded it for a toyota car that was good on gas when I went off to college. Been wanting to find one for a while. Finally found a good one. I saw that you are in Canby. My brother in law used to live there. Beautiful area. Loved the 4th of July parade as it is too hot here in Oklahoma to do much on the 4th until the sun goes down. I'll try to post some pictures of my truck. Just joined the board so I'm trying to figure it out.

Re: Lets see your truck!
Now that I'm retired I can start working on the truck. My father purchased the truck in 1980 and gave me the truck in 1985. We used the truck to haul building supplies and fire wood and numerous other jobs. Now I want to recondition it in his memory.
