Now I see what happens when you don´t check the board for over a month.
Had to read for a half an hour to see your progress.

Great Job!

I will try to check the forum more often.
Don´t forget, family is always on top of the "to do" List.

Re: Rusbuilt's 68 C-10

Well some small progress. got the new (correct) lower ball joints in and got my hubs together. Then I find out that my sleeves to connect my inner and outer tie rods were the wrong ones and my brake hoses have to have reducers so they will work with my hard lines!!! Dang it cpp!

Re: Rusbuilt's 68 C-10

So I made a little more progress today. I mounted my shocks and took the other two tires off the 6 lug wheels and mounted them on the 5 lugs. Then I spent a little time taking apart my seat in preparation of the new seat cover installation.

the truck is coming along nice, its looking good. Its just to bad about the stresses of dealing with incorrect parts and making things work when they should be a direct replacement. besides that i bet your pumped to get it back on the road again.

Yeah I am, I really miss driving it. Its not pretty to look at nor does it have air conditioning like my 4runner but I still enjoy driving it more!

Re: Rusbuilt's 68 C-10

What's wrong with the CPP tie rod sleeves?
What year drop spindles do you have?

If the CPP kit made you convert to 73-87 parts,... you will need to run 73-87 OUTER tie rods connected to 63-70 OUTER tie rods,.... bolted in the inner tie rod location.

Thats exactly what I have except the sleeve that converts between the two were the wrong ones. the 73-87 outer tie rod would not thread into the conversion sleeve. CPP is shipping me the right ones, it just sucks to have to wait again!

That's why I always suggest using 63-70 drop spindles.
Nothing else to change.
Your original year tie rods and ball joints would have worked fine.
And those $50-$60 tie rod adapters wouldn't be needed.

CPP CONTINUES to sell this 73-87 spindle kit,... even though they sell the correct 63-70 spindle that would require you to use less parts.
(and people continue to buy it because they don't know any better)
There must be a big profit in these kits.

Geez it really sucks to know that. I just bought the most complete kit I could find. I'm not happy about that decision now!

My tie rods were shot anyways and I wanted to replace them as well as all the ball joints and bearings, etc. So thats why I bought this kit because it had all that.

And that's what most people should do,... replace ALL the worn parts.

The conversion 63-70 spindles are the same price as the 73-87 spindles.
Use the same rotors and calipers.
(HD 1-1/4" parts)
But would have allowed you to buy stock '68 outer tie rods at your local parts store, if they needed to be replaced.
No need to install 65-70 outer tie rods in the inner location.
No need for the expensive tie rod sleeves.

I did the same thing on my '69.
I bought a new set of McGaughys drop spindles at a swap meet for $100.
I thought I was saving a bunch of money.
Ha.
I would have been better off buying a new set of conversion spindles for $219.

I bought the rotors, calipers, bearings, and brake hoses at my local auto parts store.
No expensive shipping and handling charges on those items.

Dang, I guess you live and learn... $$$ out the door!
I tell you whats really killing me is waiting on this stuff.. I wish I would have known I would haven't went that route and picked up most of my parts from the local parts house like you said..

Thanks Keith, I can't wait to get it finished up and drive it. Now that I have it on all 4s I plan to check the pinion angle and weld up my trailing arm perches and work on the rear breaks, while I wait on the tie rod sleeves.
