applied copper leaf. still a few places to touch-up.then tone it down with transparent black. the groove on the face will be black with the correct red center.

You should write up a how-to on that leafing business! Maybe I'm just a dummy, but I've never seen that before. Are there better brands than others? What colors can you get?

Re: 68' Chevy c10

I think leafing can add a lot of detail to a piece.... my question is are you planning on painting the center of the badge? I usually leave the leaf to the last thing keeps things cleaner.

I will be painting the center and the groove around it, but since I'm covering the copper leaf with transparent black I thought it would be better to do the paint last. that way I don't have to do tape outs with clear. I hope that makes since.

Re: 68' Chevy c10

After looking at your interior photos, it looks like they also changed from '67 to '68 the spacing on the roof skin detail as well as going from the small window to the the big window. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Dan, the leafing supplies cost me less than $40.00, and I got silver and copper leaf. enough to do the bowtie and gauge face with @ half left over.
I don't have any moolah either.

Here are some more pics of the bowtie, sorry for so many. It's the only way to show changes in the light. also looks better in person.

Thanks 72SWB ! Mine was pitted, and peeling. I was going to just paint it. I didn't have anything to loose so I figured I'd give leafing a shot.

Re: 68' Chevy c10

Well I've been back on the body work. the roof panel, outer driver side door, and underside of hood is all thats left. I was going to paint interior then finish outside wor, but decided to finish all body work first.

I'm currently looking for ideas for a shifter handle, but everything I find just isn't what I want. So I think I'll make one. Any input would be appreciated.

Re: 68' Chevy c10

I will be using the factory stick, and after looking at old door knobs, early fire truck parts to use for a the handle/knob. I have a few ideas for a handle now. I'll probably make a couple and use the favorite. Not locked into anything yet.

Re: 68' Chevy c10

You can make something that will slide over the original stick then if you don't like it later you will still have the stock one or get another one out or the bone yard to play with. I stuck with the granny 4 speed to I like the Rat Fink look of the big stick. Here are a couple of Ideas.

Thanks for the ideas FrankiD, I like the tall shifter too. So I'll use the factory one I have, but the brass knuckle idea is cool.

Thanks jlsanborn ! No progress yet on the cluster. only worked on the bowtie and cluster until my neck was back to normal.(pulled a muscle or something)
the cluster face will get the same treatment as the bowtie minus the red.

not sure if I want to use original mirror mount w/copper leaf and trans black, or use the 65' chevelle type.
