Re: Plus Five
Man. This truck is looking incredible! Do you work at a hotrod shop or something? Professional job to say the least! I can see it fetching six figures on the block regardless of wether you want to sell or not, it's nice to know it holds value. Can't wait to see more progress.

and college. I really enjoy doing this stuff. My wife cracked up when I showed her your six figures comment... she joked that she's going to haul mulch with it just so it gets driven! I mostly like the building part, not the driving or shows.

There are some tricks to filling the rad./block !
Are you using distilled water?

I haven't filled it completely yet. I have about 3 gallons in so far, but I haven't started it yet, just cranked it a couple times to check for oil pressure. I'll have to read up on bleeding all the air out. I'm heading out on a two day trip this morning, so I'll get up to speed on that on my layover. I'm going to get a crew together to be observers and helpers to bleed all the systems and spot leaks when I fire it up. Maybe this weekend!

Re: Plus Five
I have most of the fluids in the truck, but I decided I don't
want to put the gasoline in the tank until I get some warmer weather. I'd just as soon not start the garage on fire if I have a leak, so I'll start it up outside. In the meantime, I started on the cover for the sub woofer and radio amplifier and radio. I'm building this from .060 3003 aluminum sheet. When it's finished I'll paint it to match the satin dash color. The sub woofer I bought fits nicely behind the seat. It leans back at about the same angle as the seat back, so it doesn't come close to hitting the seat, even when fully extended back.

Re: Plus Five
the factory sub woofer box is fastened to the aluminum front with
the speaker grill ring so it shouldn't leak air. the side panels will lean back to match the front cover and will be trimmed to follow the cab corners. The two ovals drawn out in marker will be cut out and perforated aluminum screen will be attached to ventilate the amp.

Re: Plus Five
not a great picture, but this one better shows the angle that
it leans back....

Re: Plus Five
Do you have a fuel pressure gauge, that should tell you if your system is sealed.
Just cycle the key/power a few times you will know quickly is your fuel system is tight!

I'll probably just crank it up outside. If I do have a leak it won't end up on my floor. I HATE the smell of gasoline!

Re: Plus Five
It's raining and cold outside so I did some more work on
the cover panels. I cut out the vent panels and used round head rivets to rivet a piece of perforated aluminum to the back side.

Very cool. I love the industrial look of the mesh.
Nicely done. Marc

Re: Plus Five
Thanks everyone,
I'm planning on just painting it the satin color of the dash. I'm trying to keep some of that plain old metal feel in the cab.

Re: Plus Five
I spent a good part of the day putting in some sound
proofing and insulation behind the seat enclosure. I also finished up the two side panels. They will hold the 6 x 9 speakers. Just need to cut the holes and install the last rivnuts.

Re: Plus Five
I bent the aluminum over a 1 inch pipe by hand.
I used some thick paper for a pattern, then filed them to fit.

Re: Plus Five
the gaps around the corners are pretty tight, just magic marker
on the tape that looks like too big of a gap. I should finish this up tomorrow.

Re: Plus Five
I finished up the Radio speaker enclosure.
6 X 9 just fit with a foam baffle behind them. Hope it sounds OK. Next up, I think I'll put the tweeters in the headliner.

Re: Plus Five
I finished up the stereo install.
I had previously made a three piece aluminum headliner and I put the tweeters in the side panels.

Re: Plus Five
I also bled the brakes and got the truck back on
it's wheels. It may be a bit high sitting yet, but I'll wait til I get the stainless steel box floor and a tank of gas in it, before I adjust the ride height.
