Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Dang, dang, dang!!!!! Just lost a set of NOS headlight bezels on eBay for $5.00 measly bucks.... Those would'a been SWEET!!! Already bought new ones from LMC Truck, but the metal stock ones are always better. May have them re-chrome my original ones & repaint the inner section black to match the LMC Special Edition grille we are using.

Jeesh, how freakin' long does it take to get a set of door latches for a 73-87 pickup???? Ordered new Goodmark units through Summit over a month ago & they are STILL on back order... One set shows expected to arrive mid-June & the other won't until the beginning of July

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

A friend of mine had the same kind of problem with fenders for his elcamino. It was 2 or 3 months and he ended up calling goodmark directly to see what the hold up was, it wasn't much longer and he finally got his fenders.

May end up doing the same - have a little cushion as the truck shouldn't go in for the body work to start until the beginning of June & will still have a little time after before he actually needs those parts. He can also use my old ones to do all the alignment & stuff too.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Looks like Mario may go with a PPG Corvette Arctic White paint (4185) on my truck. Should have a really clean look to it - especially after all the panels are nice & flat! Jury is still out on what he'll use for the semi-glass black hood stripes. He also will need to paint the LMC Special Edition grille with that paint & the inside of the headlight bezels as well. The red for the striping around those rally stripes will most likely be the same that was used on the "6.0L" part of my fender badges - believe it was Ford Vermillion Red.

Here's the bell housing off of that 85 1-ton Trevor purchased. They had to mill out the opening for my application. It didn't look all crappy like this though when it got installed!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

New Mast Motorsports engine after getting dropped into the truck for the first time!!! It's all kinda loosely in there right now as they are just doing it all for mock-up. The whole front end will get ripped apart again prior to going out for paint at Novelli's.
They will be installing the engine oil cooler on the front cross member too - it's a slick little aluminum finned unit they use a lot & the engine's already plumbed for an external cooler anyway.

And BTW - that hideously huge master cylinder will be gone eventually.... Maintaining the hydra-boost set-up (after a freshening + paint), but going back with a Wilwood master cylinder & adjustable proportioning valve from CPP or someone. Should add a nice touch to the engine compartment & not look so "dated".

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Well, looks as if they got the front clip all mocked back up in place! There's a nice new scratch on the front of my left front fender, but it's all getting stripped & redone anyhow so guess no biggie - still not happy about it though... Core support still needs a few mods & then out to powder coat before it's all finalized.
Those aren't the headlights staying on the truck either since I have a set of LED headlights for it we are going with. Really starting to move along pretty good as of late so I am pretty happy!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Well, can't really understand why they powder coated the inner fenders prior to mock-up, but judging by the scratch on top of the left one they'll be picking up the cost of re-doing at least one of them....
You can see the new clutch master cylinder assembly on the firewall in the first one. The reservoir however is temporary as it'll be getting an all new one before it's all said & done.
Motor will look a LOT better once the accessories arrive & we get the 3-pc cover installed! They should be getting the radiator in soon & then they can start mocking up the K&N cold-air intake kit too!
Also gotta work out where & how to mount the batteries - one on each side of the engine compartment.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Yep, can't recall the exact part number but it's for a 2008 GMC 2500HD with the 6.0L - which is what I got the first motor out of. It's their F.I.P.K. with the black plastic tubing - not the chrome gaudy one. Hoping it comes out looking like it belongs in there & want them to fab a base up that will link into the factory opening in my core support for bringing in cool air to the filter.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Not knocking chrome don't get me wrong - when I built my '82 way back when I used a LOT of chrome & stuff on it and just got a little sick of it... And trying to keep my engine compartment kind of "stock" looking & subdued - although much more modern. I also am using the coated S&P headers - but rest of exhaust will get black ceramic coating.
Hopefully they'll start all the intake mock-up & stuff once the accessories all arive so they can see how much room they have to work with. Also gotta figure out the radiator surge tank & mounting.

And I am using the same 3-pc covers you did - just leaving mine in black. Am going to have the pin striper dress 'em up some though prior to final install, so they should look great!

i totally understand what your saying... i don't know where or why it happened but mine has taken a turn somewhere in my build of more 'show' than i had planned and i love the 3 piece covers... really sets the LS swap from others.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Understand where you're coming from on the build turning... My original plans were MUCH simpler, but things kind of happen & away you go on making the truck so much more! Although mine will end up as my daily driver when I come home for good - it's gonna see it's fair share of shows & events prior to that day.
BTW - I totally love your truck's build man - very nice!!!!!

Can you post a pic of your current hydra-boost set-up? I'm trying to figure out my 6.0L lines and what I need to link up and the hydraboost thing isn't easy for me as a noobie on these swaps....

Basically I would like to switch out my master cylinder too and get rid of the vacuum assist but I'm not sure what to order instead and then install.

This is what I found so far to be the best info on the web that I'm kind of following:

Thanks!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build

Here's about the best pic I can find of the "original" set-up for the hydra-boost when I bought the truck. Mine isn't a conversion as the vehicle has always had it, we are just upgrading the actual master cylinder & only refreshing the stock hydra-boost unit. Unfortunately this pic really doesn't show anything about where the lines hook to on the power steering reservoir... And since the shop has yet to get my new pump/reservoir combo in, I can't really get one showing you how they connect down there either...
My stuff should be in next week & then they'll get all the lines run - will try to get a good pic for you of it all once that happens.
