Re: post your 67-72 4x4
Thanks guys, I appreciate the compliments, I cant take much credit for the appearence. I bought the truck mostly the way it sits and I can tell you that the pictures dont tell the entire story.
The truck is not original at all, I am unsure of the engine itself, but it has a Turbo 350 (instead of P/G). The truck has a cowl hood (that doesnt fit worth a damn, the entire front clip needs to be regapped, and the body work wasnt done correctly. The back sides of the rockers were "patched" together, the right rear fender has bubbles/rust showing through, the paint is peeling in several areas.... The truck will need to be redone to get to my standards (to say to least), but its a driver for now and I enjoy it. I paln on doing a Blazer tank swap, lifting it, 35's, new wood bed floor, etc. Repaint the Torch Red someday....

Re: post your 67-72 4x4
what a beautiful vehicle !even though your remarks reveal that you are a perfectionist...it sure looks like a fun ride...
I am a bit torn myself as to whether or not to paint mine or just keep waxing the original paint...I really love the dark green color from '67...and it does eat up the wax!...my '67 CST also comes from Colorado...so I am blessed w/ a super body for a 43 year old vehicle... ...but I like just riding mine as well...it walks the dog in 4WD...I moved to Virginia (shenendoah)from a 1000 acre ranch in Co...so life here is a bit more tame...but folks here love the shape of the old ride...somehow havingt the original paint and interior does has an interesting effect...the truck only has 67k originall miles...it was a familys camper truick and just rode in summers etc... I have to fix the rear body mount( the dry rot has caused a little slip)...I am going to put on some air shocks too to get the rear up a little...other than getting some new rubber this fall I am probably just going to leave it alone for the winter...I did get rid if the original split rims...nobody wanted to work on them... enjoy everyones posts...t |

Re: post your 67-72 4x4
Thanks everyone, I am pretty picky about my vehicles, I'm not really complaining, just stating the facts. I still love driving the truck and feel a lot better about it since I started working on it again. (Swapped valve covers/intake, cleaned up the engine wiring, buffed/waxed the paint, etc)

Re: post your 67-72 4x4
I am still going back and forth about repainting...but thought this proof mark under the hood might be of interest to you all...I was told that it was a " sign off" mark from the person at the paint line in the factory...back in the days when human beings actually had a part in the big picture...
my truck is supposedly a california made early model '67 CST C-20...this truck spent its life in the Colorado high country...now in the shenandoah... one more reason that I have always loved owning old steel...this is my 4th old chevy...all the best...ted Last edited by silvertip67; 10-02-2010 at 05:08 PM. |

Re: post your 67-72 4x4
Here's a couple pics i took today of my 72 k20. Started with a 72 k20 frame then found a 72 gmc 1500 and set the body on her. Still have a ways to go but I plan on painting it back to the red orange and white and adding a 2 1/2 inch lift!

Can you take a closer pic of the trans tunnel area for me? It would help me a lot in the fab work I am doing on mine.

Re: post your 67-72 4x4
I cant take to much credit for the fab work all i did was cut out that section and ad a high hump tunnel from a 4x4 cab. I have seen the high hump tunnels in the sites classifieds for no more than $40.

I have a square body K10 high hump and a square body K5 one too plus the floor section that went around them. The K10 part is pretty close to the length of the stock 67-72 part and the side flanges line up with the 67 floor but the back does not transition down so I will have to fabricate the rear transition area to fit.

Nice looking truck, what color is it? I'am doing similar mods to my 71 GMC LWB. Make sure to include new pics with the swampers install.

Re: post your 67-72 4x4
Actually you dont need a high hump for a 4x4 with an automatic..the stock low hump works great. A 4 speed would need it though.

I'm only putting the high hump tunnel in there for the easy access and so the NP208 shifter has somewhere to go plus I have the tunnel parts out of the TC donor so why not. I think the NP208 shifter linkage may hit the trans or TC with a low hump. If I had an NP205 or 203 in there it would clear for sure with their different TC shifter design.

Re: post your 67-72 4x4
I did not know that, i cut the low hump out before i tried putting the cab on. I would have cut it out anyway just because i want the truck to look as factory as possible. Good to know though

My 72 daily driver (even in the winter) with a complete 02 Dodge drivetrain under it. The 72 was a total (hard LF hit) out of Texas & the Dodge was a totaled roll over. Built it 7 years ago & it seems to work well.

I agree - do they make a Cummins valve cover? I did get rid of the ram on the steering wheel!

Re: post your 67-72 4x4
It took 5 months to build- working evenings & saturdays. Had to cut 12.5 inches out of the frame to shorten the wheelbase. Thanks for the compliments.
