Re: PO has me PO'd

Thanks for the update. Sorta sounds like my Med. cruise. If it wasn't for the Marine Corps, I would never have seen any parts of the world. Spent alotta time in Athens Greece, pretty cool place. I was attached to the Guadal Canal, it was a converted WWII aircraft carrier, biggest thing I ever saw in my life.

Keep in touch, I'll supply the pics. of my progress... J.

Re: PO has me PO'd

Here are some recent progress pics., One step forward and four steps back. Dang, rivets are a PITA to remove, but I found some heavy rusting going on between the frame and some of the brackets and crossmembers, so I guess it was worth the effort... also if you are going to try to center drill the rivet, do so before you try to flatten the rivet head out with your cut off or your grinder, grinding builds up heat and thus work hardens the rivet making it really difficult to drill the rivet. Center drilling makes it alot easier to chisel the head off, less mass to cut through

If I'm boring you guys to death, with my slow progress LMK

Re: PO has me PO'd

Thanks, Just thought I was putting everyone to sleep, I'll keep going then. Actually I'm almost finished cleaning up the underside of the floorboards, the intermediate exhaust hangers are next since I have modify them for the 2 1/2" system. Need to mount them up higher in the frame....

Are you kidding me? Seeing this thread is the high point of my day.

Well maybe I'm laying it on a little thick, but I definitely enjoy this thread and watching the Jimmy come together. Excellent work BTW.

side note: I think I'm still winning the slowest build contest.

Thanks for the kind words, but you never know, crap can happen and the whole build could come to a sqreeching stop. So, I'm not counting myself out yet

Re: PO has me PO'd

Not much, but a little progress is better than no progress!!

I'm glad that I continued to take off more brackets as the one at the rear of the drivers seat was really rusted and would continue to do so, if I hadn't stopped it, hopefully...

There are 3 spot welds holding this pc. on, and I missed 2, so I riped my floorboard up alittle, and I cut to deep...

Bracket is off, all I have to do is some wire wheeling, zinc prime and some welding...
Be careful of those little wires on your wheel, one flew off and hit me in the groin, man did that hurt!!!

Re: PO has me PO'd

It may not seem like much to you now, but I'm sure it took awhile to remove that piece especially working on the underside.

My boy and I (10 year old) are going to try and pull the top today. Maybe some progress?

Actually, this is my fav. spot, lying on my creeper is really comfortable. Wish the whole restore could be done in this position

Don't know about pulling the top, mine took 2 strong sons and myself, count me as a 1/2

Re: PO has me PO'd

Got everything degreased,sandblasted,primed and painted.

Had one issue with the Prothane torque mount, the sleeve is to large on the I.D., they are saying it should be a 5/8" bolt whereas my bolt measures 1/2". So they are looking into it....WLYK when I find out.

Still have to mount up my diagonal braces on the crossmember and the torque mount, then I can get back into building my intermediate tailpipe hangers. Atleast I'm going forward again.

Oh yeah, my compressor took a crap, so I have to rebuild the valve plate under the head....go figure, twenty years of flawless service and the week I need my sandblast cabinet and it decides to quit. I'm going to call Mr. Roebuck

BTW, it feels good to be back in the blue

Here's a pic

Re: PO has me PO'd

Talked today with Prothane, apparently they think we have 5/8" bolts in the torque mounts. We don't! So he is sending me some new sleeves of the proper size for the 1/2" bolts. He said they have been making this product for 15 years, I guess no one ever complained....

Re: PO has me PO'd

Well here is what I came up with for my intermediate hanger.First, I had to cut out a convex shape to get a little more elevation, then I cut a slot for the metal strap to go up into, I plan to double up the strap to match up with the bracket thickness. Excess will be cut off of the bracket later. It looks thin on the right side of the bracket but it is not, I left the 90 degree bend on the top for added strenght. Drilled a 1/8" hole in the bracket at each end where I wanted the strap to go and cut out the center with a cutoff wheel. Now it just has to welded up...

Prothane sent the new sleeves, much better fit. Sleeve part number 60928, had to cut off .150 on the lenght

Opinions, comments welcomed please...

I think it looks great! Those racing seats you have are unnecessary, though. You should give them to your son for his Jeep! Ha Ha.

Re: PO has me PO'd

Welcome to the boards from Philly. Actually, as I value your opinion, I think your wrong on the seats. They are very comfy, and keep my tired old arse in one place. Not only that, but I have four sons with jeeps and one would surely be offended with my overly generous gift to the other...

Thanks for the kind words on my progress!!!! Hope to hear from you again. J.

Never, ever forget....ground zero

I think a snowballs got a better chance in he!!

I have to finish up the mount on the pass. side, that had the tightest clearance, then move over to the drivers side. On to getting the motor running, I would really like to hear it after five years...

Sooooo what's up with you, any progress

Nothing but searching for parts, I think I finally found a pair of inner fenders locally...we'll see. Hopefully this weekend I will get something accomplished. In the meantime I'll just watch your progress. Good job!

Moving in the right direction for sure!

Any recent pics of the overall vehicle?
Be cool to see it, see all of it so we can put a face with the name so to speak.

Looking forward to seeing this ride on the road/trail next year.

See ya in the spring.

Where in the world did you find a 2wd frame??

Re: PO has me PO'd

Working my way to the rear...needs some modification. At the t/c it seems to angle down to far, Mieneke said he could bend it up about 1 1/2", this should bring it to the point that it runs level to the frame. Clamps might arrive from NAPA today. SS preformed strap clamps

Gotta go check out some 50 series flows, and clean up all that crap on the crossmember to see how I want to mount them up

Still have to design and build my 'H' pipe, looking at the location where I want it, it might have to be built out of 2"
