Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
just fit my bumper after days and days of massaging it to fit properly, passesnger side was hit fairly hard at some point and poorly fixed with Bondo and shimmed with washers. had to heat, beat, and use a 25 ton press to get it even close to straight. I still have to de chrome the 2 upper replacement bumperettes but getting close to finishing the rough metalwork on the body. I just have the hood and the 2 inner fenders to do then I get to move onto the finishing touches on the engine and start roughing out the interior.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
no... not yet anyway.
the front end sheetmetal is just hanging loosely by a few bolts. I did have the gaps a little too tight in some spots so I have to shim a bit for spaceing since it only has a thin coat of primer vs a few coats of paint, I figued it out that the overall final paint thickness for all the surfaces combined (side to side) will affect the gaps by close to 3/16" overall so I'm trying to compensate for that a bit. the truck is going to be 90% disassembled when it goes for paint so I didn't want to do any final fitting until then. I do have to pull the hood still to fix 2 rust spots and trim the inner edge by the rad for a bit of extra clearance. |

Finished up the new floor and kickpanels, got them covered with bedliner and undercoating. Also fiberglassed in some minor rust in the floor pan under the seat and door wells. read to clean up the dash and paint. Next is the doors! .... Killing time waiting on a buyer...

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I worked on my rear suspension crossmember and cut out and tacked the brackets for the lower control arms. I have to do a mock up on the frame then break down the brackets so I can bend the top to match the curve in the frame.

Today I got the bench seat out of the cab and took off the passenger door. I know it's not anything major, but baby steps is about the best I can do with the limited time I have to play...

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Well, this week started on the right door rust and dent repairs. Soaked bottom of door over the weekend in phosphoric acid...worked pretty good. revealed more rust than I thought ( I should know there's always more than you think). Made a patch for the inner and started on the outer patch ( Half done).

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I received the custom made rear fenders for the flatbed in the mail. Thats when I discovered I'm a bone head and gave them the wrong mesurments.
So I spent all of Sat and part of sunday re-arching the fenders. Had to change the opening from 39 1/2 in to 29 1/2 in. I still need to grind down all of the welds where I pie cut the fenders. About 100 @ 2 inch welds in total.. AGAIN, my fault not theirs. The quality of the fenders are top notch and would not hesitate to use "fenders n' more" again. |

Walked by the truck and kicked the tires to see if they had enough air in them and decided that was enough work for today.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
A lot of the basic tools I use have been passed down the generations. I have carpentry and wood working tools that I am at least the fourth generation to use. What I met in the post was channeling his energy and memories that is I think is a part of our inherited DNA. A lot of people believe that when you use a tool, or build something a part of you stays with that tool or object, kind of a Zen thing. Also might be the reason some tools just feel more comfortable or a "part" of us when we use them.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Completely ruined my new custom flatbed fenders trying to "massage" them to fit perfectly. Then I whined and moaned until the wife let me order new ones. Then I went to the garage and hit myself in the head with a hammer 'till I felt better.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I thought a lot about my tank filler and did some on-line research for a solution. This week end going to attack the tailgate latch install. FFredo, I feel your pain. I once got an stock 59 fender in what I thought was bad condition to use for parts and welding practice. I practices a lot. when I stripped down my fender I found out the "bad" one, which now has hundreds of holes, cuts and weld beads, was in better shape and would have worked.
