Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
I went a little different direction with the trans cooler. I bought a Derale cooler with a fan, and mounted it outboard of the frame. The lines that came from the trans were used at the trans, and the kit came with compression fittings and enough hose to go over the top of the frame.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
I have 2 different factory coolers and the associated bracketry to give it a whack. Also have a mess of the snap in fittings and lines. Hopefully, some bendy bendy and some comp fittings and we can start on the upswing on this dealio. We'll see what some Chipotle and Bud Light inspiration brings this evening.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Had a good weekend on the truck. Trans cooler fabbed and in. Trans lines fabbed and In. Neutral safety switch in and wired. Backup lights installed. Intake on, harness on. Shift linkage modded. Small Ac line clearanced to install. Puke tank in. Computer in. PS/alt bracket painted, ps pump painted. Compressor final installed. '71 hood latch plate installed. Fuel line clamps final finished. ground strap installed. Engine wiring tidied up, temp gauge wiring checked. Rad hoses cut and ready.
Many thanks to Vic for welding up my trans cooler brackets. It is greatly appreciated. Of course there's pics! Who wouldn't have pics! Gotta do what you gotta do for mockup Finished up '06 hose cut up-looks like it grew there. Not hole in framerail for bolt clearance, not bad for eyeballin'! Vacuuming out ports- dig them Fel-pro gaskets Where we left off- Thanks for watchin' guys, tomorrow's another day!

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Excellent progress. Thanks for sharing the pics.
I guess your radiator port is smaller than mine on the lower hose. I am going to have to make an adapter for mine to work right. I had to heat mine up with a heat gun just to test drive mine. Mine didn't fit worth a crap. |

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Thanks guys, I'm tryin. Still gotta get a fuse holder and make a panel to hold all the electrical. Should be able to reassemble and install the PS stuff tonight. Starter should be in as well, then the plugs and exh manifolds. Radiator will take some soap, but it oughta work ok. The upper hose will use an adapter made from the same fence rail as the fuel filler adapter. Down to slappin' 'er together. I'll probably have to have Eric come over for the fire-up and make sure I didn't miss anything. Still have no idea what the hell to do about the exhaust. Big Black is off to the audio shop this week, kinda stoked about that.
Like I told Stacy, this is the point where most projects stall, 'cuz you're workin' your butt off and it looks like nothin's gettin' done. This project will not stall. I did it once, I can do it again.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Ordered all the stuff to make up the exhaust this morning. Flyin' Ryan is parting a '97 Ford and said I could come steal all the relays, circuit breakers, and whatnot I want off it, headed there after work.
Forgot to mention, I got to wondering. Big Black has been a pretty good guide, but there are some significant differences. Guy up the street has an '04 CC, so I went up the street. "Can I look under the hood of your truck?" They graciously allowed me to and told me to come back if I needed to. Always good to have good neighbors.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Oh, anyone got the hot tip for hooking up the prndl indicator? Big square thing, it's the right one, but it won't go down and seat. What am I missing?

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
It's hard to describe, but the prndl connector has a locking tab on it. You have to line the connector up just right with the plug and depress the locking tab at the same time as you're pushing the connector onto the prndl switch. I know that's probably clear as mud, but the point is you have to do both at the same time to get it to seat.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Thanks to all!
Day, thanks, I'll take a look tonight. I was lying under there, all lined up, just stabbin' away, nuthin. I received it disassembled, so I had no frame of reference. All the rest was snap snap snap, no problem. In other news, got a big blade fuse holder from Flyin' Ryan, and the bracket and wires for it should dovetail nicely with my evil plan. Hope to get the bracket fab done tonight, and maybe start wiring. Got the alt/PS tower installed and hooked up and the idler pulley installed and the starter in and Trans lines clearanced (again). Went to Radio Shack and found a 12 pin connector set that should work good for the cluster harness. Gonna get silly hot 'round here the next few days, might retreat inside and build the cluster, with Mike's good shots seen here- http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...354738&page=93 It's good when even Momma comes out and says, "Man, the bed is emptying out!"
