Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
The rear is tubbed. I cut the tub in half and added a 4" wide piece of sheet metal. I plan to redo it with new tubs using 2 sets so there is only one weld seem. The fronts took a little coercing and picking the right wheel adapter thickness.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Bought another parts truck yesterday, a 1996 C1500, 5.7 TBI/ 5spd. Time for a total drivetrain swap on the '65. Going back with the manual trans, using the '96 hydraulics. Possibly changing the rear end, also, so to keep a working combination together.
will update the build thread, once we get started. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Installed the deluxe knobs today and took the truck to town. Had one person stop and ask if I wanted to sell it. Of course I said no, and "its my grandpas truck" usually ends that. But I appreciate them liking it enough to ask. As long as they don't throw a typical flippers price at me lol. And another guy came over while I was putting gas in it. Beautiful day.

I fired up the '66 C30 today and drove it around a bit. Will do some more tomorrow. Then it goes up for sale.

GMC hood got stripped. Pretty solid overall. Going on my '65 Chevy C10 1/2 ton step.
Before and after shots.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
I towed my tractor with ol Two Tone today! Piece o cake in compound gear...Tried to start out in second; almost...but wouldn't...load was a tad to heavy..and I didn't wanna burn my clutch. lol. But I did shift from compound to second and the motor pulled...might chance and take her down the road an see if she pulls in 3rd. Tractor weighs around 3500 pounds and trailer around 1200....that's calling everything a tad light. No pictures means it didn't happen...so here are some pics...and check my build thread later tomorrow for a video.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Removed the deteriorated A-pillar drip rails on both sides of the cab to find that the A-pillars, while pitted, were still sound.
I'll weld in new drip rails once the cab is sitting upright again. Looking into using some type of rust converter/encapsulator inside the A-pillars and across the top of the windshield via wand/tube, like the "internal frame coating" that Eastwood sells. Anyone have any recommendations? |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
My plan is to media blast the A pillar and then seal it with epoxy primer. Or I might use POR-15 and then epoxy primer. I want to keep water out so I plan to use a modern adhesive to attach the drip rails. Before I do, I plan to check with Tony and get his advice.

Replaced the trailing arms, the old ones were a tad moth bitten. A huge thanks to forum member Wayno for donating his old trailing arms.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Painted the valve covers and attached the coil packs. Still need the oil pan to come in, and need to put gaskets under the valve covers. Going to wait to install accessories until after it's in the frame.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Well,
I didn't actually do anything to the truck exactly... Started making a home for the old girl so the weather doesn't do too much more damage before I can get funds together to continue restoration progress. My Daughter just HAS to "help" with everything. I love that she is into the things I do. Mom wasn't too happy with me for this one, but I didn't show her the picture until after we were back on the ground! still may put some kickers from the drip edge of the barn roof up to the rafters, it's just about at the limit of what 2x6's can handle. Plus, roof sheeting is 3/4" plywood... Not overdoing, just working with what was free. |
