Printed the Design, traced it on the paper real hard with a pencil and this transfered the design real faintly onto the door, then retraced in pencil. Then just started painting. Took a few hours. Wet sanded with 400 to take down the paint texture.

Nice post, nice build. I think we need to find some wheels that fit the look of the truck. Keep up the video stuff too. Might take you somewhere someday (movie producer). I was impressed with that. I liked the one where you guys took the GMC out of garage...good stuff.

I think the motor is hutrin'

I have no shift indicator, accidently left it in 2nd while entering the freeway... Needless to say the motor got loud before I realized that it was in 2nd... Odd rattling noise from under the hood, but haven't had time to check anything out. ARGH.

I do that sometimes too.. but I realize it and kick it up a gear. Regarding the motor.. it sounded too good for anything to be wrong with it. What headers were those you went with.. I ask because I', looking for a set as well.

Eh, it had to be spinning 6-7000 rpm, it was not happy. Today it felt like it was missing every now and then on the last bit of road home. But half may have to do with the fact that I've been crossing flooded roads all after noon and water could have gotten on the plugs. But, going to my dads house to finish some powder coating and he's gonna give every thing a good checking..

Just the more-valve-ticking sound instead of exhaust leak, and that damn motor rattle have me a bit worried. And the odd rattle only happens when the truck is under load at idle, but I can't find where it's coming from. Sounds like it's down low around the motor, but the motor was too hot to reach down and check it all....

I'm over worrying maybe, but meh.

Good news is, i can bank tons of cash with Domino's delivery. 1st day of work, banking $45 in tips, with wage and delivery-commissions. With a few weeks of that, I'll have some cash to throw around.

yeah.. me too. Why did you have the rpm up so high. I would be gentle on a motor I know nothing about. Find out things like where it likes to run temp wise, it's querks, where the power comes in at, compression check each cylinder, check for vac. leaks. There are all kinds of little checks you can do, this way when you notice something out of character, you know somethings wrong. Be easy on these motor.. especially used ones you know nothing about.. until you can get some good stable miles on them. Sometimes things that can be simple fixes end up being more $$ due to neglect.

Wasn't on purpose, that's why. I wouldn't run 2nd gear that high on purpose.. And I've gotten the "Hot rodding" out of my system now that I've been driving it.

It's been running fine today, no odd rattle, on a 30 mile drive. I've been driving straight for about 2 months with no problems though. With daily driving, that's plenty of miles down since early Febuary.

But, temp and oil pressure are normal, and the truck is running smooth as usual. No studdering problems today. I think the studdering came from all the water splashing up from yesterday's flooded roads, getting the plug wires a bit too wet. Even the top of the inner fenders were wet, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was a cause. If it wasn't a mild hurricane this weekend I could spend some time doing header gaskets to see if that's what the main ticking really is.

I'm more paranoid than anything else when I see the slightest thing wrong on the truck. The rattle isn't consistent with any driving conditions, only that it's heard at idle in gear. Like I said, the motor was too hot from driving yesterday to go reaching around listening and checking things. For all I know, could be the starter heat shields hitting the header or something minor like that...

But, hey... if this one ever died, I could always pray that my dad would let go of the TPI V8 in storage

Guud news, got the stethoscope out, and found that it's an exhaust leak from the center cylinders that's ticking. And crossing more flooded roads today, the water from yesterday had to be what caused the studdering because it did it again today. Just pulled over, cleaned off the dizzy and drained what little water that was sucked up in the air cleaner and drove on home.

Crisis adverted.

Today, at the good ol' Domino's, the weather made the trips out into the country interesting. You know how previously mentioned some large puddles caused some interesting studders with the motor?

Try forging flooded roads with about 6" or so of water... I'd wager my front bumper was plowing threw the water (of course, on a lowered truck). Had to cross it back and forth 3 times, but the truck plugged on threw with out missing a beat after the 1st time. Just aim for the stripes on the other side and stay in the middle and it was all good!



Also, 3 out of the 9 delivery runs gave awesome complements, and even had a crowd of power-out-age'd-people rooting for a little rev...


And, only used a half a tank. The truck certainly does a good job at taking everything and bringing in a few extra bucks delivery pizza.



Next weekend, all new header gaskets to knock off the damn ticking

So do you have to pay for your own gas when you're delivering? If so, that's gotta suck.

I've only spent 50-60 bucks total this weekend in gas. That's including about 50 miles spent driving around outside of delivering. But I've made well over 120 in tips.

You are compensated for gas in your commissions for deliverying, which here is 1.25 for one order on a run, and an extra 50 cents per extra order on a run.

Like Friday, I drove my mom's GMC Jimmy, and spent 20 in gas on it, how it managed to do that, I dunno. Made 45 in tips that night.

Saturday I put in half a tank into the Chevy, made a 40 mile round trip before work (just under a 1/4 tank) and spent just under a half tank at work. This includes the river crossings and a few trips into the country. About 20 in gas, and 50 dollars in tips.

Tonight, I only used a 1/3 tank at most (a few freeway trips), but made about 50 in tips once again.

Needless to say, just on tips alone I come out ahead on gas money. With about 120 in tips, and about 60 in gas this weekend. This is with a 4bbl Q-Jet 350 with a TH350 and about 4.10 gears. As long as I stay out of the 2ndaries on the carb, it doesn't do too bad around here.

And that doesn't add in my wages or commissions

Oh yeh, that water last night, went by today to check it out!

Well there's your problem

No wonder you could hear my exhaust leak before my tail pipes
The paper gasket we threw in at the last minute turned into a solid piece, and was blown out in the center banks. New gasket at the head, just gotta fix the lower driver's side now it sounds like, and I'm all good.


Also, looking around for a rear bumper: I want to keep something useful. I love the utility of this bumper, it makes getting in and out of the bed, tail gate up or down, very easy. The hit hook up is a plus. Problem is, it's ugly.

So, while driving around I've been looking at bumpers of late-model trucks for idea, and think I have found the best looking doner. Just got to get my truck side by side to compare them, but:

Picked the ram bumper, because it's smaller than the boxed out and over sized F150 bumpers, but with much less plastic than the GM truck bumpers. It's a relativily smooth looking bumper with plenty of stepping room, has hitch hook ups and all.

Looking to get a stock set of bumper mounts, and drilling out the dodge bumper for bumper bolts.

Couple things. What's wrong with an OE chrome bumber. Just me.. but I would not use anything but chevy parts on my truck. Don't start getting desperate. Just save and buy what should go on there.

BTW, you're a stud delivering pizza's in a 69 C/10. I just think it's studly. I used to work for Domino's back in the day (my college years) and let me tell you it was one of the coolest jobs I had. I always had money to do whatever.. and as a delivery guy you meet lots of interesting people and you often get offered other things other than tips sometimes.

I have some good memories as a delivery boy!! Good tips too.
