Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

Had my truck on the lift the other day to change oil and check some other things and figured better take some pics before it gets too dirty and beat up!.....about 6k miles and it's staying pretty clean!

How do you like that transmission pan Jim? Does the 700r4 seem to be holding up to the abuse?

So far so good......though I don't beat on it too hard. The pan is fine and I also have one of those aluminum finned coolers mounted to the side of the frame rail, but the tranny still gets too hot in traffic (have a trans temp gauge). I need to reroute the lines through the radiator and to a better cooler mounted up front.

Sounds good I'm going to get a trans cooler just in case. I ordered a level 3 700r4 which should be plenty for a street truck but I wanted to be sure because of the 502big block but they say it will be good up to 700hp with a one year unlimited mile warranty. So I will be putting it through it's paces lol...

It rides pretty well for older lowering techniques....stepped A-arms and dropped springs. I bought the lowering kit for it waaaaay back in the early 90's when there wasn't much available. Shocks are also a good 15 years old (KYB gas adjusts that I painted). I also need to flip my tie rod ends because of some bumpsteer......but for the most part it works pretty good.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

Jim do you have a pictures of what you did with the inner passenger seat mount? I just picked up a 93 seat and am going to cut it down the 1.5 inches. Seems like the inner pass side may just need a spacer of some sort? Thanks.

Dang....looked all over for pics and can't find any......from what I remember, I had a spacer on the front before I cut the brackets down and It seems go me that the 1.5" I cut off was just enough to not need a spacer anymore on the front.....I'm pretty sure I cut the back down....been like 3 years since I did that! Pretty easy mod and I'm glad I did it.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

I was looking at your circuit board by your emergency brake and confused me by the color of the carpet. I see the seam of the black carpet but then it still goes black up the firewall. I'm wondering what material you used. You must have put something over your sound deadening...It looks pretty cool like that. Spectacular paint btw!!!!

Thanks.......just some semi-gloss rattle can paint before I put the carpet down!

So you just painted over your sound deadening stuff? or did you lay any jute padding or anything?

I first sprayed the cab with Lizard Skin sound deadening material and then laid the foil back insulation down. I also used some hvac sticky back duct insulation material around the edges and up under the dash. When I put the carpet down, I just sprayed black on the foil areas that were exposed.

Jim, your truck looks great! I can only hope mine comes out half as good. I would like to see it in person someday, I travel through Sac approximately every 10 days. Enjoy driving it.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

That's a pretty nifty idea! How does the Lizard Skin compare to other sound deadening material? That stuff you have to use a spray gun right?

Couldn't tell you how it compares......just seemed like a easier solution as opposed to Dynamat or similar....and yes, applied with a undercoating type spraygun.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

If you have already shared with the group I am sorry to ask again but how did you refinish the frame, did you sandblast prime and paint or use some of that rust cover over paint?
Thank you in advance

I just cleaned and stripped it and then put on a good Black Epoxy primer. Nice thing about most Black Epoxy's are they typically dry to a nice satin finish.
