Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name
Well I'm still going stir crazy. I've been held up by the county building department trying to get the permit approval to build my new 30'x40' shop. Once that is in (hopefully within two months), I will be back in business. I've been renovating my house and the truck has been on the back burner.
Oh, and the Power Wagons!!! Another love affair. I love these trucks. They are the ultimate 4x4 utilitarian truck. Pics below. They are both 67s, which is the 2nd to last year for the WM300. The chassis is a 56. The flatbed is an example I found on the web of how I want to build these.

Man all that power wagon needs is a Cummins 12 valve, that would be so wickedly cool.
Damn, now I want one!

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name
Since I moved out to the boonies a year ago, the truck has been on the back burner. I've totally gutted the house and renovating it has been the number # priority. The love of my life has rewarded all of my efforts by basically demanding we go ahead and build a shop dedicated to my truck restoration!
So we went ahead with a 30' x 40' shop with 11' ceilings. Originally it was going to be a pole barn, but because we are on a sloped lot, we had to engineer a massive concrete wall/footing that would retain the slope. It should be pretty much done this week. Below are pics of where my truck has been buried for the last year, and also it's new home. I threw in a picture of the truck's new brother that will be sharing the home as well, a 67 Power Wagon. Of course the 71 Blazer will be in there as well. I can't wait!

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name
That's the million dollar question. I met my Majs board in December and the results are due out in April. I'm due to PCS at the end of this year. If I can't find another assignment somewhat in the area, I'll probably punch, but need to ensure I pin on before I due so, in order for the rank to follow over to the guard or reserves.
Assignment options are all a much farther commute. It would probably be the Pentagon which would add an hour each way... Timing is everything. How about you?

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name
Since i'm active guard I can stay in this area until retirement... I should have been promoted last April but due to mismanagement in the last 6-7 years they promoted too many people and didn't force any into retirement. Now there are about 20-30 of us that are working in higher grade positions and not being promoted. I would have been a below zone promotion, now I have to wait until this summer or fall... not much I can do, at least I have a good job! I want to build a garage like that... what's the cost? I guess $30K?

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name
And I thought the Air Force was the only one that messed things up. That's the same boat we're in. They can't manage the force to save their lives...
You're spot on. Originally when it was just a pole barn, it was about $16,000, but when the county got involved, they needed us to have the foundation engineered for the slope. This thing has a 42" footer...I have never seen anything like it. The concrete guy said he's build apartment buildings less robust. This building will now be the community bob shelter. So the concrete work alone has been close to $10,000....I was less than pleased. All in all, $31,000.

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name
the guard handles personnel a lot different than active duty too... they have a capped force structure and you have to count the new recruits into those numbers. My unit usually has 25% of our strength in basic training, flight school or skills training...
I shouldn't have the same footer issues, but concrete guys charge an arm and a leg around here. They wanted $5-6K just to pour 9 yards for a patio... I passed...

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name
No apology needed, it's an interesting topic. That's what scares me about the guard. I've heard it really can be a good old boy's club. I've seen too many waste-of-space people get promoted on active duty, I can only imagine what the guard is like. Problem is all the good guys get screwed by this insanity of the system.

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name
there is always a "good ole boy" system in any business, just make sure you're not the turd and all is well. I like the guard overall though, nice to have the stability where the kids can grow up like a normal family vs the army life.

Great build....I have been following your build from the beginning and its been very inspiring...I want to install the same type of wheels that you originally had on your truck and was wondering if it had any type of spacers on the hubs to correct the backspacing.

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name
This is one sweet build! I found it last year and have been keeping an eye on it since. How's the garage coming? It'd be cool to see some more shots of it if there are some. I'm in construction and hang out on garagejournal.com a lot so I love to see the build.
