Here is mine from my '69 GMC 2500 Custom Camper.

Questions - Why the long 6 digit numbers for the options?
Why do they start with 3 vs the number 4 seen on other spids?
Any ideas on the unusual VIN number?
Most SPID's have short 3 letter/numbers descriptors.

Also curious about the 3B85BC body side molding - Would this be the upper and lower moldings or just the upper? My truck had been repainted sometime in its early years and does not have the lower molding just the upper.

These are all good questions, but first you truck is correct (except for the white paint).
The prefix and suffix numbers or letters are just production specific modifiers of an RPO code.
The center three are the root and all that most people need to worry about. The suffix digits are helpful is some cases. It is something I use, as an example, to determine if a truck had just a chrome front bumper or a chrome standard rear bumper too. They use the same code but the suffix tells the story when descriptions fade away from age.

In this case, the3B85BC spid call out for a stand alone belt molding and tailgate trim.

Very much appreciate your insight on my truck. I am not trying to do too much with this one as I am working on my other '69 that is getting a fresh 396 installed very soon. I knew the truck was repainted many years ago, and I thought it was primarily to match the camper that was on the truck since 1970. However, I am seeing some evidence there is some repair work on the passenger side bed right at the seam of the 6" extension. The welds just do not match the driver's side. I suspect the truck had some damage in that area and the PO painted the whole truck to cover up the bodywork. This truck has been fun to own and very very reliable. I bought it in Nebraska (sight unseen) 7 or 8 years ago and drove it to Maryland after putting new rear tires and new brakes in it.

Just to expand on that thought a little bit - by the next generation truck ('73-87 C/K/R/V) those RPO modifiers went away completely. Most of the SPIDs still carried the format but filled the spaces with "dummy" characters.

I have been with truck engineering for many years but was not familiar or aware of those RPO modifiers until I joined this site.

Hey Scott, what color is the Special Paint? Kinda looks like it might be silver, which is what my Cheyenne was as well as my buddies 71 Super SWB. Both were solid none 2 tone.

Here's mine. I always though it a bit unusual to be a Cheyene but have no power brakes or steering and no A/C, and 3 on the tree trans. Always thought of the Cheyene's to be "fancy", but maybe not, just my perception from seeing other Cheyene's with more goodies on them.

That truck is pretty well trimmed out. While it does not have P/B or P/S I'm sure it is a great driving truck. Practical 350, 3-speed and gauges and a lot of pretty. With the wheel covers and belt molding it looked like a super. Besides they really popped for a big option with that radio.

Here this will put the numbers in perspective. The base V-8 truck as optioned was about $3309.90 of that $514.00 were options that amounted to about 16% of the total.

Now if you add in the P/B, P/S, A/C and an Automatic the options jump another $822.00 to a total of $4131.90 and now the options ($1336.00) represent almost 33% of the sales price.

Then of course there are other added costs as well like destination charge, license fees and taxes to either total as well.

Well, when you put it that way...check out how fancy my truck is!!!!!

The sad part about that radio, it worked great when I got the truck back in 1983, but being a teenager living in the mountains of NC where there were NO rock and roll stations, I had to have a cassette radio. Pulled out the old radio, replaced with an awsome Sanyo, put 6x9 speakers under the seat, I was rockin then.

Well, again being a teenager who wanted to know how everything works, I took the old radio apart. Over the years I tried to put it back together but never did. I am sure it got thrown in the trash when my parents moved to a different town.
