Hgs notes- this is a watts link. It allows the reared to travel straight up and down without shifting left to right versus a single pan hard bar that allows your axel to shift from left to right whenever your truck moves up and down. There is a video on here somewhere that shows the watts link in action.
It works very well with zero side to side movememnt.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize the center section rotated to prevent the rotation of the axle. Now I understand.
