Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.
well im thinking about rebuilding it
but could there be something simple wrong with this old motor. my dad claims theres no compression what could be causing this bad pistons and rings? ive been watching craigs i never see to many motors around my area. i mean i see them in trucks and cars but i dont want to drop like 800 on a whole vehicle just to pull the motor. anyways i think i might pull this motor above or at least start on pulling it this weekend got nothing better to do. intake i still am wondering.. but i know one of them runs for sure. its just in my blazer. and i like having that blazer its fun to drive around in up north.. we have 200 aches outside of merril. but my dad wants to rebuild a 350 or some sort of motor in his life. hes the one who bough the rebuild book. i could prolly talk him into it since its his motor and all. i dont have a engine stand tho.. here is some of the things a web site is saying i should have done at the machine shop. idk if i need all that done. idk know of a machine shop in town ill have to ask my dad. Have your block degreased and magnafluxed. If it passes the magnaflux test, proceed to the next step knowing it to be crack free. Have it sonic tested, this way you know if the engine block is even worth using. Have the block checked for core shift. Most reputable shops subscribe to a Standard of Practice of Engine Rebuilding and will check out the vitals of your engine block using these Standards. Have your cylinder walls checked out for roundness, this will prolong the life of your piston rings and life of your engine. Have your machinists put a fresh hone on your cylinder walls, unless you plan on doing this step yourself. If over-boring an engine, try to use a "Honing-Plate" if at all possible Don't Forget to have new cam bearings and freeze plugs installed, for most guys its alot easier having the shop install these

haha quads are fun maybe if i had a fast racing one and not so many trees.
ah i still want to rebuild my dads 69 block that we have. i looked at her this weekend and it doesnt look like much to pull it just getting it in the truck and getting under that 69 is the problems. hah plus no funds i may have found a job tho at a quick lube in town. idk yet. if i get it then ill have some progress in the future so i can buy parts quicker. haha but thats it for now. i should start on the bed decking this week.... haha i need some motivation.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.
So sunday. went to harbor freight and bought a engine stand. one step closer to a rebuild. 50 bucks for the stand i know 3 leg ones aren't the best but i can always weld something on there. tipppy i guess..
Got the block in my yard on it and started to tare it down. also took the manifolds off the block up north and other things required for pulling it, yesterday. here are some pics of the new stand and what not. Laying in the yard. The New Stand. Pic of the bad... Another Intake off Short Block and the timing chain gear with part of the cam.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.
I have a 4th of the cam out haha. The other half is in the block I'm gonna have fun getting it out.
Next I'm going to mark the main caps and pull the crank and see if the thrown rod wrecked the block. I might be rebuilding this one, I would rather rebuild the 69 block tho.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.
This is the motor that was in my blazer.
Then i put a running 350 in it last spring before i got my c10. My uncle is the one who wrecked it. back in the day my dad said it was ticking real bad and my uncle.. his younger brother goosed it into a snow bank and that was the end. Threw the rod and she was done. I dont want to rebuild this one cause its a early 80s motor and that 69 block is rarer and would match the truck. Plus has more horespower.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.
Looks like this block is junk. there is scoring on the cylinder right at the bottom where the connecting rod was pinned in there. So if i do a rebuild its going to have to be on that 69 block!
ill have some pics. All the pistons are out and im pulling the crank out tonight.

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.
so i got the engine all tore down. lifters are out.
here are some pics. As you can see this is the first piston on the left. see the scoring where the rod was wedged in there. pic of the rod that killed this 350 see all the wear on the crank how much of a diffrence there is on the first area where the connecting rod bolts on. compare it to the rest. the one furthest away. what caused this???? baaad doesnt seem like a horrible motor besides for the rod and what not. the head you can see where the piston scored the head... closest chamber to you pic of bed material freeeeee did a lot of work on the bed today.. welded footings on and drilled holes and painted. showed my little brother a thing or two about welding hopefullly i get that 69 block home and its a lot nicer than this one... thats it for now comment ask ? give me answers to why there is so much wear on the crank...??

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.
Well is there any way this thing was running on 7. because in the pics above, how the rod was wedged in, riding the crank as the motor ran.
Or was this damage from before the rod broke. What causes a rod to break? Is this 2 bolt main junk beacause of the damage on the cylinders. Heads junk? My uncle has a decent 350 short block... He is the one who wrecked this one he owes it to me...

Re: Project' 69 c10 aka sin.
The wear could be due to a spun rod bearing, that finally wore to the point of popping out, and the cyclical motion of the crank inside the (now bearingless) rod wore it out.
That could explain the really bad ticking beforehand as well. Then once the bump into the snowbank popped the bearing cap on the rod off, the next time the crank spun around, it buried the disconnected rod into the cylinder walls. That's just my guess though with only a little bit of information to go on. Did you find the rod bearings in the oilpan, or were they still in the rod?
