67C10rustbuket, on you mount bracket, I would recommend you slot the initial three holes you use to mount to gauge console. I missed a step from LS171Nova, where you verify the speedo is centered. Mine came out too far to the right. Unfortunately, I already drilled all the other holes before I checked. Slotting those 3 holes would allow repossissioning the mount before drilling the rest of the mount holes. Otherwise, worked great and definitely glad I went this way. Thanks. Jim

Slot these 3 holes.

Looks good, I will put mine back together and check the gauge center alignment. When I designed the plate I went off the needle center and combined the hole patterns so It SHOULD be exacttly where the original speedo needle was. The problem with slotting the mounting holes is I would have to slot most of the holes and then it would be less rigid. I made it pretty thick to make sure it was rigid. If there is an alignment issue I will fix it and replace them all. There is a (very) small chance that there was some drift when those were punched on the old turret press. I checked the plates I have at home with my template and they are all dead on. If mine is properly aligned and yours is not I can replace yours or make a special plate and offset the holes for you.


To others: I know several are waiting on me to finish boxes and I have yet to finish them. I have been swamped at work with our new machinery and filling engineer requests. I will try to get them done asap, hopefully the big guys leave me alone today so I can work on them .

I expect it was due to the reproduction gauge housing and back tin. It didn't want to lineup with the new glass or the new console face that it mounts to. Minor adjustment and all is fixed. I just need to pay attention to the procedure steps. Good product anyways. Thanks again for making these. Jim

I thought it looked a little different. Are the numbers and letters on the gauge lense just like the originals? All of the repro 8k tach kits I've seen have lettering on the gauge lense that's different from the original style.

Don't know about originals. Never had one or looked at one long or close enough to remember what they looked at. Next time I'm in my shop I'll get a better pic and post it. Jim

Yeh, Me too. Haven't been able to find any anywhere. Last major hurdle to putting it in the truck. That and some free time. Sorry BigRed, it's going to be a while before I can get that pic of the tach. Back at work. Jim

Yes I got them off of a truck at the pick n pull. I've never looked for new ones, but I'm sure someone makes them since they make harnesses for all kinds of cars and this kind of socket dates back to the late 20's or so. Ill do some checking and let you know what I find out.

I am going to use these. wired twist lock 194/168 sockets. Just like original but wired. They are not self grounding but the twist lock is the correct size for easy install. They are LED compatible or use original bulbs.

ls1nova, this is an awesome thread... I haven't seen one like this in a long time in any of the forums I'm a member of. I'm sure the question has been asked before, but is kinda hard reading through 270+ posts; have you guys nailed down this type of retrofitting for the 73-87 trucks? just wondering, thanks in advance, I love seeing people make their ingenuity flourish.

Haven't messed with a '73-'87, but then there's really no reason to since you can get the cluster out of a '88-90 Blazer or Suburban since they are the same and come with electric speedometers. The only real down side is that they are only 85mph speedos.
