Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Looks like after talking to Dave at porterbuilt I'm gonna have to correct my rearend angle, bummer. I'm making a wedge to install between the trailing arm and the axle pad to correct the pinion angle.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Well I spent the day cutting off my bag perches and axle pads. After realizing having my rear end pointing down at 12 degrees I had to do so. And yes it sucked. Although I did realize that I'm a better welder than I thought. I have them tacked on now in the correct position at 0 degrees. By the way if you decide to get some porterbuilt parts definately follow the directions when they say only tack things in place before finally welding, lol.
Thanks to Nate from porterbuilt for some much needs advice and confirmation.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Well I got the axle pads and bag mounts tacked on. Now I have the correct angles and measurements. So now I can have my driveshaft made.
I also got some gas goodies in the mail today.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Well I fully welded my axle pads and bag brackets on in the correct positions. Should have my driveshaft hopefully by the end of the week.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Can anyone tell me what style brake caliper this is. I assume it is a late model GM caliper but I can't find the specs anywhere. It is stamped GM 6474177. I just want to make sure I get the correct banjo fitting. I'm guessing it is a standard 3/8" banjo that I can use.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Got my fuel pump in and mounted last night. Also got all the fuel lines mocked up to the fuel pump.
Im waiting to get the rearend back under the truck, that way I can install the gas tank permanently and complete my gas lines.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
I mocked the driveshaft up again today and it appears to short. I'm pretty sure the driveline shop messed something up. I have to call them tomorrow. This picture shows the slip joint to tranny connection which is over an inch from being in all the way.

This what the slip joint looks like in the rear with the front slip joint pushed in all the way in the front.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Well i just dropped off my driveshaft to driveline shop. They are going to have to lenthen my the front shaft at least one inch. Im sure hoping they aren't wanting to charge me for something they messed up. I am not doing much on the truck with these single digit temperatures. This winter sucks.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Sorry to hear about your driveshaft issues. It's their screw up so they shouldn't expect you to pay for it.

A buddy of mine is supposed to drop by this Sunday and drop off his hydraulic flaring tool so that I can start to complete my brake line setup.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
This is kinda why I've been working on my own. I can cut it to size and see how it fits in the truck during the process.
The closest drive line shop from is an hour and with the weather/salt on the roads I wasn't about to send my truck down to them.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
I hear ya there. I wish I would have just got a chop saw and tacked the thing together then took it to the drive line shop to have them finish it and balance it. Oh well, you live and learn.

True that.. However, I'm not sure my methods are going to work out any better than anyone else's. I guess it's all trial and error.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
I talked to the driveline shop today and they added an inch back to my driveshaft on tHeir dime. I was happy to hear that. I'm going to try and work on this beast tomorrow and Sunday some. I think I can finally start to bolt suspension parts down once and for all. Everything has been tight but not secure to date.
I also squared away my driveshaft dimensions thanks to some help from Nate from Porterbuilt. Not only do they have top notch parts but they also have top notch support whether it is Dave or Nate one of them will help you out.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Well the driveline shop came through and fixed the driveshaft on their dime. I was on my way to go get it this morning but I got stuck in my driveway. There was drifts up to my door on my full size truck so I decided to park it and go get it another day.
So I went to the barn and did a much needed cleaning. Too much grinding and cutting lately, left a lot of remnants on the floor. I hooked my rear bags back up today and I couldn't take it so I had to loosely fit the front clip on. I can't wait to get the cab on.
