Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
Oldman3, Thank you
Bubba54, Thank you, Yes, it is getting a raised floor. I have to epoxy prime the running board brackets and put them on. Then mount the running boards to the brackets and mount fenders on the bed and see if the bed has to go up any. Then I can make the structure to raise/mount the bed. Shannon

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
looking proper. did you do any lap joints or all butt welds on your floors there? I think when I do mine I'd lap the front and side kick panels just for some extra strength. Since we are on the east coast and have horrible weather, I like butt welds for longevity but I guess if something is ever gonna rust, its gonna rust no matter what way you go.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
99 to Life, Thank you. All my floor board seams are on the 1" x 1" box except the front one. I ran it over the box tube by and inch, then the toe boards have a 1 inch bend on them and are plug welded and spot welded. The fire wall is also like that, bottom of it has a 1 inch bend. Then they were plug welded and spot welded. I was on a mission this weekend and was slacking in taking pictures. Yes, if it going to rust it will anyway.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
99 to Life, yes, it works out really well. Then I have tubing the whole way across the cab, unless the tunnel is there. Then I bend a piece of tubing weld it in and cut the tubing out. It stays line up pretty well.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
48 GMC BURB, glad you like it. It is really coming along.
Chris. That will work. I can do it. I got the running board brackets primered and mounted on. Then put the broads on to see what needed done. I need to fix the lower board brackets because they are damaged/rusted. I put the fenders on and blocked up the bed to where it needs to be. The bed floor will be raised about 4". So now I am cutting the 1.5 "box tubing for the structure. So that is this weeks project. Shannon Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
I have loved the 56 Belair eyebrows on these trucks since i first saw it done on "Overhaulin". Did you have to scrap a couple 56 fenders to make that happen or can you buy eyebrow patch kits ??

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
oldman3, Thank you, I love seeing it come back together.
av8tr33337, I did it with patch panels and then made the inside stuff to mate the patch to the AD fender. I did see that on "Overhaulin" too. It was a cool truck. Shannon

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
99 to Life, Thank you.
nebdrummer, Thank you, Trust me I know what you mean, I would redo so much on my panel but just keep telling myself NO. I figure out what I need to do with the raised bed floor last night. Then went to use my 220 3 phase saw and it seems to not be working. The static converter must not be putting out a phase and then the motor starts down because it is hot. So I brought the 1/2 plate in to work today to saw. Shannon

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
Bubba54, Thank you.. Glad the belt line went in good for you. It looks great. It was also great talking to you rather than typing.
I worked on the raised floor tonight. I made the tapped plates that weld to the 1.5 box tube that gets weld to the bed sides. Then cut my cross tubes. I then milled them all to the same length on the mill so they were square on the ends. Then cut the end pieces with the 45 degree angles on them. I notched the cross tubes so the will fit together. They will get 2 3/8 holes drilled in them. Then they will bolt to the tapped plates so the bed will be able to be taken apart. The bed wood can be put on last and there will be aluminum angle that gets bolted down on top of the bed wood then. Shannon Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
thats a great idea, I tell you what having a bed that comes off is soooo great, sucks when your trucks is soo low you cant reach see nothing under it. I'v had my bed off several times to work on stuff.

Thats a pretty interesting setup you've got going on with the bed supports. Love to see more details on that one. Id like to be able to pull the bed more easily.
-metal master is right! you got it going on.

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
99 to Life, thank you. It makes life so much easier this way. Plus with raising the bed I can add my stand off right to the cross braces.
chev3600, it does workout really nice. And it is simple to do. I must have lost 10 pounds today sweating. It is hot here. I finished up making the cross braces this morning and then started on the bed. I clamped my side pieces of tubing to the bed sides to see that the bed side were really wavy. I drilled 5/16 holes in the bed sides to plug weld the tubing on. Which it did pull them flatter. I still will have some shrinking disc work to do yet. Then squared up the bed and installed my cross braces and the tapped plates. I put 4 cross braces in. So with the way I did it the bed can be disassembled. I still have to make the rear part of the bed where the bed wood sets on and the raised filler piece goes. It is also getting a trail hitch had that will be behind the custom roll pan. So here are some pictures. Shannon Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
Oldman3, thank you.
48 GMC BURB, thank you, yes we had a good time. I will figure out the steering shaft later today. Off to a late start today. I talked to Trently(aussie54) for a few hours this morning so I an a little behind. Then it got hot. I did manage to pull the bed off and cut out the bad and plug weld the lower front tube on the front panel. Now off to the pool with the family for a little while and then back at it later when it cools down. Shannon Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1951 Chevy / C4
Oldman3, yes, the pool was great. Then it rained once we got home. Then Monday it was supposed to be nice. So we went to Hershey park for the day. And guess what happened, 2 storms. The weather men were better when they did not have the technology. I am tired of all the rain we have been getting.
I had off today. So I made the bed mounts. I have 8 made and 6 installed, then I cut out the rear tube. Ken wanted a hidden trailer hitch for his small utility trailer. So I made a hitch for it. The rear bed mounts will mount to that also. I will make the roll pan and splash aprons on Sunday. Here are the latest pictures.
