Thanks brother! I really appreciate that. I've still got plenty to work out though!
For one, I can't get my scanner to connect through obdii port which is a big problem because I didn't adapt a temp sending unit as I was planning on keeping track of engine vitals with my scanner till I got my autometer gauges. Every time I try to connect I just get a connection error message. Anyone got any advise on this one?

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

This is really aggravating. I'm still waiting on my TAC harness to get here and I can't get my scanner to link up so I don't know if everything's working properly or not. Fabricated a mount for the PCM case and drilled holes to mount TAC module last night. Also got all my underwood wires properly routed and loomed. I'll be posting pics soon. I'm also having really strong gas smell at all AN junctions but I can't find any fuel leaking??? This is driving me crazy and its stinking up the garage.
TAC harness should be here Friday or Saturday and I want all this straight before then so I can just plug it in and do my first drive!!!

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

Ok I'm having lots of issues. Main issue is that my engine will not rev over 2500rpm. When the engine is off and key forward, my scanner shows throttle going to 99.6% and throttle blade is opening all the way but once I start the engine it will only go to 20%? Can anyone help me? I'm getting no codes either.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

I believe there is a relearn process you can perform between the pedal and the TB. That might solve your problem.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

I'm trying to do that but I can't let it idle for the 20 minutes without overheating. Now I'm leaking coolant from somewhere in the water pump area AND leaking oil from the aluminum adapter that goes where the factory oil cooler lines connected to the block. I'm getting really frustrated now. Starting to feel like I tossed $5000 in the toilet.

Think I'm just gonna mess around with finishing cleaning up the wiring in the cab this weekend and not even worry about the leaks or driving anymore. I'm too frustrated.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

Wtf??? So I start it up and I wack the throttle and boom it snaps to around 5k Rpms instantly! Scares the crap outta me. I look at the obd scanner and hit the throttle a couple more times and it's hitting 99.6%. Shut it off, crawl under it and hook up shifter cable, start it back up for a test drive and back to only 20% throttle and 2500rpms!!! Wtf is going on with this thing!!!!
I also can't tell where coolant is leaking from. I'm guessing front seal of the water pump but can't see behind the pulley so who knows.

Rewired how? I've got the original pedal, TAC MODULE, and PCM for this engine and a brand new PCI conversion TAC to pedal harness. I'm not sure what would need to be rewired?

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

Did you burp the cooling system, sounds to me like you've got air trapped if it's overheating? When it gets frustrating like this I find it helps to remove yourself from it for a little while and come back with a refreshed mind.

Yes, no air in system. my wife's cousin is a 20year GM tech and told me that the 20%throttle and 2500rpm is the reduced power mode or what some people call limp mode but the fact that it's in this mode but not throwing a code doesn't make sense. He told be to clean all my grounds and check for loose or broken wires at the throttle body connector. I'm so aggravated that I don't even wanna look at it today though. I might push it into garage and piddle with it some tonight after it cools down outside.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

Sounds like it is going into limp mode. just cause the parts all came from a seller does not mean the file in the PCM matches the hardware. You need to find someone with hp tuners to data log all the gas pedal and throttle body data to see what is happening. The 2006 and up pedals are different than the 2003-2005 pedal connectors. The connector at the pedal is small on the newer pedals.

Yep, it's the 06-07 plastic pedal with the "k" TAC module. I'm going to call wait4me and make sure they flashed my PCM with the correct programming. With so many things going wrong all at once and with my job having me working both days and nights, I've just decided to step away from the truck for a few days. Plus I currently don't have money to replace the water pump or run the exhaust so I can't really start/ drive it for a few weeks anyway. Very frustrating after all the late nights and obscene amounts of money to still not be able to drive it.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

Regretting this swap already. Over $5000 down the crapper and cant even drive it. Still wont rev over 2500 or give me over 20% throttle and I've got various leaks I've been addressing everywhere. Also had to replace the water pump after having spent money to have it blasted and painted. I've spent hours on the phone with mechanics, tuners, friends, and on the internet and NOBODY has a clue whats wrong with this thing!!!! Ive checked and rechecked the harness, had the tune in the pcm checked and supposedly its good. The only code Im getting is "bank 2 lean" code but my bank 2 O2 sensor isnt reading either(yet another issue) so Im guessing thats why Im getting that code.
If anyone has any ideas whatsoever Im all ears cause Im about ready to drop a small block back in this thing ans sell the swap off!!!

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

i don't have the answer for you, but i feel your pain. i chased an intermittent code on my swap for over a year. all of a sudden it would start running rough and get real rich and throw a code. never was it cylinder specific, just a generic code. it finally ended up being a broken wire inside one of the injector connectors. took a noid light set and some patience to find it.

your issue is fixable, just need to track down where to start. do you happen to know what the "p" code number is for the reduced power mode? maybe you could get the gm trouble shooting sheet, or a generic online one, and work your way through that?

No but I think I'm gonna check the injectors like you did. With the wifey a help, I checked all the harness pinouts last night and they're all in the right spots so I guess now I'll start looking for broken stuff.

Great build thread. I will be doing the same as you soon. Your swap even looks factory. Sorry about the bugs. From what I have researched, most ls swaps have bugs in the beginning

Thanks.
Yea most have bugs I guess.... Mine just has so many issues, and I have so little time and money to straighten them all out that it's just overwhelming me I guess. I wanted to be driving this thing by now.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap

Nope, same issue. still cant drive it. Im on my second wire harness now and TAC module, pedal, and throttle body have all been confirmed good. Still not throwing any codes and still wont rev high enough to get over about 20mph. Looks like I might have to pay to have rear end rebuilt in my daily driver soon so If I cant get this figured out asap then its probably going to get parted out. I just dont have anymore money to throw ay a non running vehicle anymore. Im close to $6000 in for the swap so far and still cant drive it.
