I found the push nuts at my local farm store and I have it back together up to the point where the faceplate goes on. The Vintage Air system has a new faceplate so I will wait for that to finish assembly.

I'm kind of in limbo waiting on a few pieces to show up on the porch so I got a really good start on bodyworking the firewall. I have a few pin holes and a couple low areas to work yet but it looks really good considering as a body man, I'm a hack. Vintage Air should be here this week and hopefully the pieces I have at Powdercoat are finished this week as well.

I hear ya! My biggest problem with it is I just don't like doing bodywork and its not fun for me.

Not only can I not do bodywork, but I pretty much can't do anything but pay someone to do all the work for me haha..
I know what I can do is burn the tires off of the truck when it's done!!

If you haven't installed the vintage air unit, I highly recommend you STOP working on the passenger side of the firewall. If you don't want two bolts poking through, you'll need to do some welding and you'll ruin your bodywork. If you're good with the bolts, then by all means, proceed. The kit is set up for 4 connections for the heat and a/c stuff, all arranged vertically, but those can be modified and moved, but the mounting brackets are kind of stuck where they end up. I just did that mod to my firewall, so I know about what you'll be going through. I just want to save you from having to redo something if you really want to get rid of the two mounting bolts on the engine side of the firewall.

I appreciate your advice sir. I have not done any body work on the passenger side yet. I have been waiting on the corner firewall piece from PB which should be on the porch when I get home. My Vintage Air came yesterday as well so I should be able to make some good progress this weekend.

So did you just weld the evaporator bracket to the inside of the firewall instead of using the bolts?

Your truck is turning out great. I am enjoying every subtle detail. I may have missed this before but do you plan to cut down the long bed or get a new short bed?

Thank you very much! I definitely want to cut down and retain the original bed if at all possible.

All of this monotonous work on the firewall is finally paying off. I received my firewall piece form PB yesterday. They make it oversize so I made a template out of poster board, trimmed it to fit and got it welded in. I finished the wire gutter cap and body worked the passenger side. I have great respect for paint and body guys because they make it look so easy, its not!





Then it was primer, block....repeat


Next was some primer sealer and I taped off the toe board area of the firewall and sprayed the lower section with bed liner. It works great as a stone guard and the texture looks good to me.


I also got the floor cut tonight and the mounting holes drilled for a factory high hump. Tomorrow I will finish masking the cab and I will put color on the firewall. It has definitely been a good two days.

That's a good idea, I did mine like that and the road noise is a lot quieter
