Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Rewired the starter, had to adjust brake light switch so brake lights would not stay on, minor adjust to carb, fired it up for first time since last November. Drove around the yard, aired the tires, installed new plates and registration. Need inspection and then road test for reliability. Long time coming.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

The factory tint door glass from eBay arrived. Unfortunately, the window run channels did not. I installed the driver side glass anyway, since there was none previously. It could rain tomorrow, who knows?

Installed the el cheapo seat cover I bought after augmenting the remains of the original foam with bits and pieces scrounged here and there. It looks like crap, but will do for now.

Still fighting an idle problem, the 350 acts like it has a vacuum leak. Idles all over the place and dies when put in gear. I verified the timing is correct, but have to turn the idle up and richen the idle mixture to keep it running. It has an Edelbrock (Carter AFB) carb on an adaptor plate (Q-jet manifold). Installed new gaskets above and below the spacer, no improvement. I have a rebuild kit for the carb, but didn't feel like diving into that today. Maybe tomorrow. Irritating.

Cleaned and de-rusted (polished) the drivers side chrome channel that holds the door panel. Since there is no door panel, it seemed convenient.

Cleaned and polished the PRND2L lens. I can almost see through it now, a great improvement! Onward and Upward.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Finally got some time to work on the trucks today. My brother came by and helped me and my son pull the engine and trans out of the parts truck today. I will try to finish stripping the truck down tomorrow.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Installed a new 1 inch, phenolic, 4 hole spacer in between the edelbrock performer intake and the 1406 carb. seems to have stopped the hard starts after it warms up. Drove it about 60 miles today with my two boys. They dig cruising in dads old truck.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Took the kick panel vents apart so I could vacuum out the the dead leaves. Cleaned and oiled everything before putting them back together so they open and close easier and quieter. Very nice on a hot day to be able to open those vents without being blasted by bits of dry leaf!

I ran into a very similar problem with my lift kit. I could not get the bolts back out of the rear of the front leaf springs. I had to slide my sawzall in there and cut them out. There was no metal sleeve in there and the bolts had rusted/melted to the rubber.

I couldn't get my bolts through the new sleeves either, and installed everything without them.

Are those the Boss wheels? Looks great against the black frame.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Since I'm gimped out from work right now, I'm relying on my 16 year old to do most of the work. He got the 2" dropped coils put on the front and and 4" dropped in the rear almost done. That and the new car style rallys change the whole look of the truck. Next week I hope to have the dropped spindels and lowering blocks ready for him to put on. LOL

No. Very similiar, they are like a cross between the Coys and the Boss wheels. Straight bolt on, no modification needed with good B.S. Showwheels Streeters, bout the same maybe a bit less than the Boss setup.

Only potential downside to them is the brand is carved into one of the spokes, but I don't mind it, especially for the price.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

resized newer pictures of truck, .... yep,.. that one hole in passenger floorboard has to be Rifle bullet hole. ... exited close to dead center of tire, ... might explain why truck only had 3 original steelies when I baught it.... I had never noticed or thought about that hole till just the other day when I saw it........ I baught new oil for it and need to get rear lights to quit blowing fuse.

perfect weather to work on truck or to blow it off for another day. time will tell.

p.s .. the dual floor consoles cost 120$ .... on sale at 79$ closeout.

p.ss. it has good oil pressure, the key was just on for a second to get picture.

My nephew killed his Ford Ranger several years ago with a 30.06. Why the rifle was loaded in the cab, I don't know, but the round went through the floor, took out a transmission line, hit the frame and fragments went through an A/C hose, the radiator and the A/C condenser. It was an expensive day for him.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Well, I haven't accomplished much today, last week I did get about 90% of the entire underside of the ole '72 coated with POR-15, one header installed and working on the other between the rain bands from Tropical Storm Lee, I am also working on relocating the clutch tube with the linkage due to header tube interference.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Bought paint (on Friday), a close friend came over on Saturday and we block sanded my cab before the last coat of primer (only close friends will come over and help block sand). We only found a few spots that needed spot putty, we filled those and I am heading out into the garage to finish those in a few minutes. Tomorrow morning (before it gets hot) I am spraying the final coat of primer and hopefully, next weekend I will be spraying color on my cab. I have been sanding/filling/sanding/priming/block sanding/filling/priming/ block sanding etc., etc., and so on and so on for about about 8 weeks. I hope to show you all the results of all of my (and my close friend's) labor very soon.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Today (and yesterday) I removed the burned out cab and front end from my truck. I then removed the good donor cab and front end and got the cab mounted on my frame. Not a great amount, but it is a start at last. There are more pics on my build thread, Project Phoenix.

I put on a lighter set of tinted turn signal lenses. I made my other ones a little too dark.
