I've moved to the front bumper now and am totally winging it. No clue how to attach it, but I'll figure it out I'm sure. Lots of cutting and welding the frame because it sure doesn't line up! And a little safety tape on the fender fronts.

Also, one thing I forgot to mention is that for each new hole I drill for trim, I get an artist's brush and paint 2 coats up in the hole for rust prevention.
When are you going to add that fourth door?

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Hope you have a nice grill to go into that hole in the front..... If not I have a NOS one just waiting to go on something like this.

I don't think many people will notice the 4th door not being there as there, its just such a beauty that no one will even look.

I was at a show this year and there was a beautiful 57 Belair, unbelievable quality, then as we walked away we noticed the second handle. The owner laughed and said we were the 4th person to notice, and out of about 10000 people, thats not bad.

Good work Drew, and I will now stop pestering you on the trim and pictures outside.

Now I will patiently wait for the exterior finished and a great picture so I can add it to my folder of COOL trucks.

Darren

Drew- looks great!! Just a thought- should you install the grill assy. before mounting the bumper? It may help you know how high/low it needs to be. Keep up the nice work!

Drew do you think it would be possible to weld the front frame horns on from a 67-72 frame? If so, I've got an extra frame just let me know how long of pieces you need.

That was my exact thought and so I have a set from another board member already. After tinkering with it though, that is not going to work. Thanks for your offer.

Yes I will be back and forth the the grille and the bumper. I have more room to work at roughing it in without the grille in my way, also see my hammer - might not be pretty if I missed my frame rail and tagged my new grille.

I just ordered a new one from LMC (cheaper shipping). Darn.

3 door would have been factory anyway, and its fun to see the puzzled looks too.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Drew,

First off awesome work! I spent two whole days reading this thread from beginning to page 100 (when there was only 100 pages). I was hooked. I was so hooked that I decided to sign up as a member instead of just lurking about. There isn't much that I can say about your work that hasn't been said a couple of hundred times already so once more - awesome work.

I did have one question, the frame that you used is rack & pinion steering on a 2001? I didn't think GM started doing that until '07. My '04 silverado still has the old style steering box, what trucks came with R&P in '01??

Thanks for looking and liking!

2 wheel drives had rack and pinion in 99. 4WD still had a Saginaw box like our old trucks through 2006.

Looks good from here. The time you probably spent fabbing the bumper is more then some progress. Soon onto the interior.....

Factory 72 items that I must bend and twist. The bending was easy, the twisting took a mighty big pipe wrench!
