Re: GM Semis
Sure is! BTW, that truck at the pump appears to be one of those Fageol-Peterbilts, either a rebuild of an old Fageol by Peterbilt or an early Peterbilt with left over Fageol parts in it. Either way not uncommon in California during those days.

Re: GM Semis
Per the guy that knows old peterbilts.
It will not have been military surplus. This Peterbilt has aluminum radiator, which Peterbilt stopped building from mid-1942 through February 1945. The bumper is Fall '45-'49. If the emblems were not airbrushed out of the photo, it is possible the truck was rebuilt with newer hood and radiator shortly after the war, without the emblems. Trucks were very scarce at the time, this was done a fair amount.

Re: GM Semis
Now that's really bizarre! Looks to be a 747 mockup, maybe for checking cockpit visability during taxiing, but what is it doing with a McDonnell-Douglas insignia on it? Judging by the GMC and the 727 that picture was taken years before the Boeing/McDonnell-Douglas merger.

Re: GM Semis
I would say so, most likely a 6V-53. Only other possibility would be the DH637 V-8 Toroflow. Both of those engine options required the raised cab. The only gasoline engines that used the raised cab were the 702 V-12 and 637 V-8, neither of which were offered in Chevy Steel Tilts.

Re: GM Semis
Someone needs to get this if I was still living in Farmington NM I would get it. Doesn't look to be in to bad condition. She might sell it real cheap with Detroit power you can't go wrong.

Re: GM Semis
I'm sure this post puzzled you guys.
I got a spam in my email with this title. I just responded without reporting it or opening the thread. I looked later and there was nothing actually in the thread regarding the crap in the email. Weird.

Re: GM Semis
I stumbled upon a FB page last night that has all GMC pics from the 40's to early 60's. Mostly 2 ton and up. As I check it I'll post some here....
Once again, forgot if this big one was already shown here. |
