Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

My truck had a set of those helper leaf springs on it. The PO had heated the original coils to lower the truck and there was only about an inch of travel before the helpers would kick in.

When driving the truck over bumps in the road the helper springs would engage and bounce the back end up into the air. Like an amusement park ride .

The way the PO mounted the helper springs was to take a piece of I-beam, cut it in half down its length and then he welded the web and flange of the beam to the frame.

The other scabbed on plate must have been a rear bumper mount?

PO's... go figure....

Hi Everyone

Here is some pictures of my 1965 GMC. It has a small block 350 motor with a 4 speed transmission and a 12 bolt rear diff with 4:11 gears. I just finished the 4 link suspension for the truck.

Sadly with a lot of previous owners, these were just yard trucks and they really didn’t care what the modifications looked like, as long as they sort of worked. That looks better than the 57 Chevy sedan I bought. It had a 350 installed, and the engine mounts were stick welded cold. Both had broken off, and one side was held on with vise grips while the other end was help up with a C clamp! I thought it prudent to tow it home.

I used their bags tucked into the rear coil springs. They'll need to know the width inside of your springs and height required.

The bags were not a GM item in those years. The Chevrolets had a helper leaf spring.

i just removed these from my truck. when i installed the 6 inch drop the aux leaf springs rested on the ends of the rear control arms. what a PITA to get off.

The hood inserts look cool. Is the vent panel chromed?

No offense intended but the only thing I was thinking was that truck would be perfect WITHOUT the chrome vent panel and hood vents.

Different strokes for different folks. Or in this case, "different trucks for different...uh...er...."...you know what I meant

P.S. I'd forgotten how awesome the slot dish mags were when they are in as-new condition. You pretty much only see them dulled down nowadays. In the mid '60's if you were WEALTHY enough to afford those (and no one would have put them on a truck in those days) you were the schit! I remember seeing them on a dark green matallic GTO in '68 and thinking that was the most beautiful car I would ever see.

Yes it was chromed.

The black truck had a lot of personal touches. For instance it has wood grain in the body side molding, and the same woodgrain on the little chevy emblem located cab trim.

And I liked the hood inserts also (but as you can see from the picture of my truck below, I am hardly impartial).

Got any from under the hood? Curious how they mount.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Lakeroadster,
I hope you didn't takre my opinion the wrong way. I did not mean to offend. I think the hood insertts are practical from the "letting heat out" stand point, but I think I would have preferred louvers. Then again, louvers are expensive and those hood inserts could probably junkyard sourced if you were lucky to find some in decent shape.

Love your rims, especially the fatazz tires in the rear!

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

Dan,
No offense taken!
I got the Camaro louvers off Ebay. I have designed an air induction set-up to use these to feed the air cleaner, similar to the cowl induction used on Camaro's, see pdf's below. I have most of the parts, but other items are taking priority at this point.

Mike,
The louvers simply bolt to the hood, (6) studs each louver.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks

i finally got the grand slam kit from cpp installed. 5" springs w/ c notches in the back, 3" springs and 2.5" drop spindles in the front. its still sitting in my boss' warehouse. hopefully get all the new brake lines bent and bled tonight.

has anybody used this front setup? my tires are scarily close to the fenders and i was wondering if anyone has had rubbing issues. 15" rims w/ 235/75 tires..

there was a thread a while back of a guy building a early 60s V12 truck. He finished, drove it in some parade and donated it. The picture above was a guy that chimed in and had already completed his build. If yo saw under the hood you may think differently. I think it would have been better looking if the wheel opening wasn't so big but each has there own taste
