Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Painted out the "yellow tag" on the Vintage Air drier (showed thru the grille);

90% installed on the new grille (How the Hell do those square nylon expanding clips work?...I never can get them to work without shaving them);

Installed sound deadner under the hood. Pulled and painted the plate for the "male" side of the hood latch;

Installed "female side" of the hood latch on the rad core support and grille and grille center bracket.

Light day. No pics today. Nothin' really to show.

I didn't worry too much about it at the time...

FFWD to today when the thing won't get up over 60 PSI. I pulled the head, and found where a piece of the plastic air filter holder had gotten in, screwed up the ring on the piston, and then the piston scuffed the hell out of the bore sleeve.

What sucks even more is I saved up for a plasma cutter which will be delivered tomorrow, but with no compressor, I won't get to use it.

Anybody know where I can buy a rebuild kit for a Craftsman compressor? A new sleeve and piston ring should get me by for the next 15 years...

And people wonder why I hate loaning my stuff out...

I did however get my radiator overflow bottle installed. It worked wonderfully, except I didn't fill it enough, the engine warmed up and purged all this air out, and maybe a cup or two of coolant into the resevoir. Once it cooled back down, it sucked the resevoir dry, and probably a bunch of air.

My old compressor died too, but just from age. I replaced the compressor motor with one I picked up from Harbor Freight. 2 years and it is still running strong. In my case it was about the same price as rebuilding my old one.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I bought a used tailgate to replace mine. It has some surface rust I'll have to clean up, but at least it's not rusted through like the old one is.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

removed a bit more of the old and crusty. not alot of time for the truck this weekend. had to dodge rainstorms while landscaping and finish speading gravel for the jeep's new parking spot. hopefully i will be ready to start cleaning and boxing the frame in front of the cab in the next few weeks.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Today may son and I finished welding in all the patch panels and outer rockers on the cab for my '67 swb stepper. I probably should say my son is the welder while I am the patch panel fabricator.

After we got stuff cleaned up we looked over the cab and marked all dents that we need to fix and discussed what to do next Sunday. You see we only work on my truck on Sundays, my son and his family and me.

Since I am a novice at sheet metal work I have learned quite a bit while working on the cab beside how to make patch panels.

Here are few that many of you may already know about. Don't use a 4.5 inch angle grinder with a cut-off wheel or grinding disk without wearing leather gloves or a face shield. The first day the grinder got away from me and nicked both of my fore fingers and the sparks pitted my glasses. Here is another one be ever vigilant about where the sparks are going, set my shirt on fire also the first day.

Now when I use the grinder I wear leather gloves, a face shield and no flammable shirt.

I have become pretty good at making patch panels from the sheet metal from an old hood.

Hopefully I will learn more next Sunday.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Picked up a 71 GMC 2500 for $1600 with the intention of it being a parts truck for my 71 C20. Upon closer inspection this "parts" truck is more rust free than my Chevy, and all numbers matching as well. Can't bring myself to take it apart yet.....

Not sure what to do

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

After the carb was rebuilt a few months ago the truck still wasn't running right so the guy that did it for me came to the conclusion that the gas tank was the culprit so out it came today and hopefully be back in tomorrow (Wish I would of changed when the truck was in pieces) I thought it was good.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
