Hmmm...I wonder what kind of donuts you could pull off with quadrasteer on wet grass?
So, what else are you hiding from us? Turbo, Supercharger, AWD, NOS?

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
Yeah, I was laughing back then when everyone had their theory on my dirt-bag axle guy hosing me for 4 months or longer on fixing my axle. The real deal was that he was narrowing it 5 inches because all Quadsteer trucks and axles are 5 inches wider to clear the leaf springs when it turns. Now we see why I built a whole new rear suspension with a 4 link and panhard rod. Even then though the 4 link is supposed to be mounted where the leaf spring would reside- More engineering on my part to tuck the 4 link in line with the frame rails. It wasn't easy, I can tell you that much!

That's it hanging down in the rear. It is huge, at least twice as big as the engine computer. I had to rebuild the mounting bracket lower to not hit the bed floor, but still high enough not to interfere with the spare tire. Spare is not mounted in this picture.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
Quadrasteer...now why didn't we see that coming?? You are a craftsman and a showman, sir
So do you have full range of motion with the rears even with the air ride dumped?

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
Yes it does have full range at full dump which I have pictured in the yard. The rear only steers a little on a Quadrasteer truck. It makes a dramatic difference in parking the truck, especially this one that needed to end up 4 inches longer that the original 2002 Quadrasteer truck. Remember I was married to the 72 Suburban door length plus the cab back + the 72 shortbox length so I could use factory moldings. I could have shortened the bed in the front more and custom made my front and top bedside moldings, but I had seen the pictures of the Gold and White one (see page one of my build), and the proportions of that one looked so right I didn't want to mess up what I knew looked good.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
A few pics of the business end.
Steering sensor enclosed in a waterproof box. This sensor tells the 4WS computer how much I am turning. Inner bed had to have relief cuts to clear the tires at full tilt and full dump.

It's interesting that two people, having never met each other, can have the same ideas. However your talent allowed you to create what I could only envision. Guess I've been holding this secret inside for 2 years as well. |

Thanks for keeping my ruse up!!! I wanted to do the Quadrasteer from day one because I HATE parking a long truck. Early on I didn't know if I could pull it off and would have to give up, so I didn't want any heckling for a failure. Then I realized I had all these fans to please and keep surprising, so that's when I started being careful with my photos so as to not blow it. In the beginning I actually was contemplating custom 3 inch flares because I didn't know if the axle could be cut down and still function. Thank goodness I didn't go that route!

I've always loved the idea of having a truck that can turn like a car. Best part is you blending the best body style Chevy has ever created, making the crew cab they should have, and putting the modern drivetrain in it. Sure does make it tough not to covet. Great choice not putting flares on the truck, like those Denalis w/ quadrasteer. |

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
How much does that lower the turning radius? I'm guessing it's waaay inside what even a swb truck would do...must make parking that beast a LOT easier!

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
What did you use for the rubber mat in the bed? Is this designed for the 67-72 or did you custom cut a different product? I did a thread search but didn't find anything about it. I'm looking for something like this for my 8' bed.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.
The bed mat is a blank universal fit that you cut yourself. Very thick and beefy.
