Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
oh boy! my honest feeling about the opp door window kit: horrible design when used with the power window regulators. they def. need more R&D. i cannot believe they havent improved or modified their kits or atleast have 2 different kits-one with power and the other with manual windows. you have to grind the hell outta the inside front part of the door so all the factory bracing for the hinges is worthless. i ended up spending (not even kidding here) over 80 hours adjusting, grinding, opening up holes, drilling, and modifying their kit til i gave up and took her down to a well known glass shop that does hotrods for northern california named kidwells glass. the owner Dan said its without a doubt the worst kit hes ever had to install. he basicly had to re-do the entire kit and make his own brackets that adjust as the windows rolled up and down. he had the truck for 2 weeks!!! because he would have to walk away out of frustration! $500 later they are installed and work perfectly now. no air leak noise or anything negitive to report. if i had to do it again id drive the 13 or so hours without windows to southern cali and have Ben at one piece do the install himself.
btw, im not bashing OPP, Ben or their company in anyway

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
Thanks Dennis! That's what I was afraid of. I'm not very near that part of the new truck build, so maybe they will get it figured out before I am ready to drop that coin.
Again, your truck is by far one of only a couple of trucks on this board that I'd absolutely LOVE to have parked in my garage. So, don't leave it parked outside . |

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
I really wonder if they will ever develop a kit meant specifically for electric windows.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
lil update fellas! i got the official word.... we made it in the sacramento autorama!
i was lucky enough to get the chrome grille Jeff had up for grabs.... thanks again man! i spent a redicklous amount of time cleaning it up the masking and painting the grille part so there is a little bit of depth to it. i think it turned out great. the first pics are plain and the last ones are modified. i was also luckyenough to win a NOS grille last night on ebay!!!! so gimme your thoughts on it cuz i have a real NOS one coming for just in case

Painting the center of the grille made a big improvement in the looks. Nice work.
