Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Had the beast detailed inside and out. Got the engine bay cleaned up as well, then cruised it around in the beautiful weather with the top off baby!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I rattled canned my door jambs... I did a quickie primer/sealer job about a year ago to get it all the same color and to fix some minor bodywork. Its far from perfect but at least it is presentable. I'm really thinking about dropping the truck off to get a simple single stage paint job. The cheap places can do it for what I'd pay in materials and they'll get way better results.

I've had them paint cars before, and they don't take ANYTHING off the car, just mask it. Way better results if I strip it down real good first. Then probably have the sign shop put on some vinyl stripes or do a half wrap.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

swept the floor under and around it so the garage will be presentable when my electrician friend comes friday to set me up with 220v. finally have a welder and air compressor so the fun can begin in earnest.

i was going to run the conduit and conductor myself but he sugggested that he could do it if i would put subframe connectors in his Demon in trade. sounds good to me.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

The build of my '67 swb stepper has kind of hit a snag so progress will be slow. My son, the mechanic, is now out of a job so he has to spend his time working on a couple of projects so he can sell them. I have decided to help him and delay the '67 build some. I will be able to work mine some now and then.

Saturday we are going to move my '67 from his shop to my garage.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Today we put the new poly cab bushings on my '67 swb stepper. It was quite a chore because the new ones did not come with the right washers for the top. We managed to salvage the old ones and reuse them.

We loaded it up on my son's trailer and brought it out here to the farm and put it in my garage. I will have to move things around a little to be able to work on it, but I think it can be done.

We got one of my grandson's '73 SS Malibu started and he drove it around the yard a little. Not long ago he got a good deal on it, he paid $600 for it. It does not have a lot of rust, just the rear quarter panels.

Then we cleaned and painted the firewall on the '71 swb my son is fixing up to sell some day. He sold his '72 Chevelle yesterday.

Then we finished the day by sitting in the garage and shooting the breeze about what to do tomorrow. All in all a great day working with my son and one of my twin 17 year old grandsons.

I cleaned up the back yard, loaded the junk into the 72 and drove it to the dump with my son-in-law. Had to feed him, took him to McDonalds

That's beautiful, Bennett. REALLY beautiful!

I've been diverted for a few days. Had to go pick up my newly built ride in Santa Cruz.

Lots to do on the truck. And winter's going to be closing in (again). But I'm only one guy.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

FINALLY got my brake lights fixed! Turns out the problem was a bad turn signal switch. Between this and my never ending horn problems, I know WAY more about the steering column now than I ever dreamed of or wanted to. Oh, and if you are going to replace the brake light switch in one of these trucks, do it while you're young, before you get bi-focals and arthritis .

1. Welded "fish plate" and strips where I cut down the LWB to make a SWB
2. Sandblasted the frame, UCA, LCA, rear end, control arms
3. Primed my porterbuilt goodies
4. Ordered my new wiring harness
5. Argued with myself (again) about which air management system to buy
6. Argued with myself (again) about which wheels to buy

Do you have any pics of your shortbed conversion? Kinda interested in where you made the cuts and how exactly you did it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Had to replace fan clutch tonight after work. It was working fine, not loose or spinning free last week when I replaced radiator, all hoses and thermostat.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Had A/C recharged today. New hoses and fittings didn't leak, nice cold air again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

. . . .

After three LONG years, I finally got it back from it's restoration. We took it to a local cruise and it's now back in the garage where it belongs.

Now, I have to start doing all the "little" things that needed to be finished before it left !!!

. . . .

Replaced the front panel in my bed. The old one was pretty bent from 40+ years of stuff sliding from the back and slamming into the front of the bed when ya' stomped on the brakes. Funny thing...the old bent panel fit better then the new Taiwan replacement. Go figure!
