Seems like the truckandcarshop has the wrong pic, or is just me? I need what is in the bottom pic, the cab to fender seal. I have what is in the top pic. It came with the other seals for the fender that I listed in the previous post. The pics must be reversed. Anybody have an extra speedo cable seal at the firewall? If so let me know. The truck shop only offers it in a kit.

Did you ever get the lower radiator hode figured out ? I am asking because I have teh same radiator and same mounting locations and am having issues finding a hode that will fit, If you have any suggestions please let me know...and If I get somehere at teh parts house I will let you know.

No I haven't figured it out yet. I thought about using a coat hanger and form it to the shape and length I think it would need. Also measure the radiator and H2O pump outlet and take that to the parts house with a pic on my phone and do some comparing. Please share if you find one. It will be a while before I get back to that point. The front end will be stripped off mine for a while. BTW thanks.

My water pump is 2 inch as is the radiator, I use the exhaust preheater hose and form a shape that works and then go to the parts house and see, my issue is the parts houses here suck...and I have to drive 15 miles to the good one, will let you know what I find

Allan that top pic looks correct, those are sold as a pair and fit the outer fenders, I ordered both inner and outer fender seals, the inner comes as one piece and you cut to fit, on my 65 those outer fender seals had staples holding them on the fender looks like they may have pulled the wrong part

Is there any seals that hang down off the inner fender next to the frame rail? I didn't take good pics during teardown. Thanks

Decided to start welding on the fenders. They are a lot easier than the bedsides.



I used a Lincoln 135 gas welder that Shannon brought over. It welded really nice.



After welding



Grinding the bulk of the weld with a 3M 1991 stone.



After final grind with a 3" roloc

That looks good on the fenders. I did that to mine that last time it was painted. I thought that it really looked much better after it was done.

I wish I was home to work on mine, the weather back home has been in the 70's. I have been over in Austria and Italy since the 15th for work. It is about 10:40 am here and it is 3:40 am back home...

You're getting closer to completion.!!

I dont remember ever seeing a inner fender to frame seal.
those ones you have pictured attach to the rear fender brace inbetween it and the cab.
they help hold water and dirt in there so your brace can rust out -just kidding-
I seem to remember them being attached to a seperate piece of metal , I will see if I have one off and get a pic for you.

Alan, those inner fender seals do not hang down, the seal slips on to the contact edge of the inners that make contact with the firewall, I don't have any good pics, but before I tore mine down you could see the seals pushing out from time.

I remember mine being stapled. I'm trying to figure out how to reattach them. I'm also thinking using a C shaped weatherstrip off of a late model trunk. Then just cut to fit and push it on. Just my mind thinking out of the box.

Trimmed the repop fenders where the cowl extension was hitting. I also welded up the other fender tonight.

Make a piece of metal to cover it, and use screws to attach it instead of the staples. Just an idea. I want to see you work more too.

I tell you what, sir... I've read all 116 pages of this build and it has been a real inspiration to my personal build. (1965 lwb). I'm sure mine, or I know mine, wont turn out anywhere near as good as yours but an inspiration none the less...Great build and great color, mine will be orange as well.

That was a lot of reading. Some of it was BS, but most has truck content including what not to do. Thanks for burning your first post on my build. Welcome aboard. You gonna start a build soon?

A little progress last night. Finished up the other fender and started welding on the GMC hood. It was hard to get started on it. It's a really nice hood. There's no turning back now. I started weldeding about a 1" at a time, but it warped a tad bit. I back my welds down to 1/2". It will also depend on how hot your welder is. This was a 110 welder. First I cleaned the gap of all paint or at least as much as I could. I'm almost 1/2 way done with it now.

But the closer I get to starting the body work on the 64 , the more worried I get. It has been over 20 years since I last spread Bondo, and I know things and products have improved since "back in the day".
Do you have any suggestions or books to re-learn body work and especially metal preparation using the new products?
I know the old skills will come back, but I would kinda like to avoid screwin things up if possible.

Thanks Bubba, your an inspiration as well. Yours is running. You say you've done body work before. It's like riding a bike. Techniques are pretty much the same for fillers. Yes the chemicals have gotten better. The best advice is to read the label of the product you are using. The manufacturer knows the product more than anyone. If you have a specific question hit me up. I will try to help. If you think you might screw something up just start in a small spot until you get back in the saddle. That way product waste will be minimal.

Okay Alan Question Time!! I remember you prefer Evercoat Rage.. What is the difference between the Rage, Rage gold and Xtreme and Quantam and Z-grip ? What is the best one to use and how do you choose?? Back in the day Bondo was the only choice.

I have used all but quantam. I have been using xtreme for at least 7 years. It's my choice over the others. I haven't checked prices on the others lately. If I remember right zgrip is considerabaly cheaper.It's thicker compared to xtreme. Xtreme will run off the mixing board if your not careful especially in the hot months. xtreme can't not be applied heavily. It will run off a verticle panel. That's exaggerated some, but it will sag. Rage and gold fall in between xtreme and zgrip. That's my .02 from a vague memmory. Did I answer your question?
