On the first 2 pages there is a q-steer truck bed peeking in the garage... was that the donor? So, how many vehicles went into the making of Frankenstein?

Yep, that's the one, 2002 black Silverado 4wd. It had a kink in the frame on the passenger side but was still drivable. Don't step on the gas too hard though or else the engine will vibrate and rub on the firewall. I drove it that way for about 9 months just to make sure everything was good and operational. The 5.3 only had 66,000 miles so this was most of the powertrain I used for Frankie.

Drew,... I'm not sure anyone has asked,... but how is this truck titled?
72?
2002?
Just curious,... because some members are having issues with simple lwb to swb frame swaps.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

In Tennessee it is easy, no inspections or anything. I just took them a title that I had a matching vin tag and had it registered in my name. I've had the title and tags for over a year. I have antique tags so I never have to renew or do a smog/inspection test either.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

We are finally home after 2300 miles and zero issues!!!

I did a little gas calculations and cruising at 80 mph hurts bad. I knew it was going to just from the very different throttle pedal position to keep it plowing through the wind at that rate. Our last tank we ran with the 18 wheelers at 68 or so mph.

80 mph = 15.1 mpg

68 mph = 19.4 mpg

is that wind resistance to aerodynamics or actual blowing wind?

The 15 is about what my brothers tahoe gets

Wind resistance. I drafted an 18 wheeler for about 10 minutes at 80, and once in the slipstream I had to really let off the go pedal.

It's like shoving a brick through a bucket of tar.

Awesome work, Drew. The fact that is was a family project makes it even better. Now bring it to me so I can haul scrap metal with it.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

It gets better mileage than my 03 Tahoe does at the same speed. I only see 17 at 70mph.

We don't have personal property tax on cars or their restored value, only a sales tax on the original purchase collected when you register it and buy tags. I have it insured for a lot for very little dough.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Ok, but what year is it titled as '72 or '02??

To be Old or New, that is the question.

By the way Drew, haven't commented in a while but have been following religiously!

Absolutely Incredible!!!!

I'm sure he has it titled to whatever the door plate has on it. If MPD does a spot check on his plate and has it show up in thier system as a 2002 when its obviously an older truck thats going to give him a lot of hassle and explaining to do! .

We only care about the body year. You could have a model t sitting on a ranger frame, but you're not going to title it as a 2010?!

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Right!

It is a 1972 vin plate attached to the door jamb just like it is supposed to be. Looks like a 72, registered as a 72. No one would know any different - unless they drove it!

I have lots of little items to redo or finish up correctly, but right now I am concentrating on our house.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Your house looks awesome! Here in Ia, if you build a wrecked vehicle, the state must come out or you take it in and have it inspected. Usually when they issue you a new VIN, it'll be for the current year. Not the year of manufacture. That happened to a friend of mine's Dad. He built a 84 crew cab and used a 74 frame. He wanted to be legit and they nailed him with a 08 model year truck. So now his plates and insurance were priced as a 08 truck. He sold it 2 years after he got it drivable.
