Holly cow! I can't believe it either, especially the last post. Dennis was always eager to help by giving info and tips, he will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. RIP Dennis.

Dennis

I will remember Dennis for who he was...a fellow square body enthusiast. His past and personal life are not supposed to be blasted all over this site. He built a show piece out of a well worn machine and he proudly shared his build with us members still struggling to get out in the garage to touch our projects. So please stop cluttering up the build page with nonsense. Honor Dennis and this thread as adults and let's get back to building what we love.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

I don't think anyone has cluttered up this build thread?

I think a number of people here, whom never said one word to Dennis (be it over the phone or through this blog), feel like they knew him or had a connection because of this thread and I think he would appreciate all the kind words OR information that has been posted.

I will miss the dude! I thought this whole process with his build was entertaining, informative, and most of all, inspiring! I hope I have half the ambition left he had, to finish my project.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

When I first read this I wasn't sure what to think. To bad I didn't read it up-to-date but with all the notifications I got about this thread I didn't check it all the time.

I didn't know Dennis personally and never talked to him personally but he did comment on things and help out however he could based on this build. In fact, this thread has encouraged me in my build because I know even though mine looks like a hunk of junk it can look as beautiful as his truck in the end. Also gave me many idea's on what to do with my truck.

I'm not going to speculate what went down with the police, because everyone has their own story but even if he was on drugs I have a hard time believing he would try to honestly hurt someone, he just was not that kind of guy.

I'm glad to see his truck get into a show though, he really wanted that and at least he got that for all of his hard work.

Although many of us never met him personally, we all share a connection through this site and that's something. Prayers go out to his family and those who were involved in this and I hope his family can see the kind words people are sharing.

R.I.P. Dennis, you will be missed.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

For the purpose of correcting the "facts" presented in the original link I posted, it should be noted that:

1. The law enforcement personnel present when Dennis was shot and killed, failed to follow the internal procedures of their department/agency by neglecting to handcuff and confine Dennis to the backseat of a law enforcement vehicle while the search warrant was being executed.

2. Law enforcement also failed to follow the procedure of their department/agency, when upon being informed of the precense of a firearm, they asked Dennis to open the household safe which was only immediately accessible by fingerprint identification.

3. Upon accessing the safe, Dennis began to pick up the firearm but he never actually discharged the weapon. Law enforcement responded to this action by shooting Dennis in the hand. The law enforcement officer allegedly shot in the hand by Dennis was, in fact, wounded by shrapnel from the firearm Dennis began to pick up after law enforcement discharged their firearms. Unfortunately, law enforcement failed to render medical attention after removing the firearm from Dennis's control, and they continued to "return fire" until 12 rounds had been spent.

It is my understanding that this matter is being investigated by a detective not affiliated with the officers/agents responsible for executing the search warrant, as a possible murder. It is very likely that Dennis would be alive today, albeit in prison, if law enforcement had refrained from continuing to discharge their firearms after neutralizing the initial threat of danger presented to them.

While Dennis was obviously troubled, his legacy should not be tarnished by information, as reported by the news media, that is simply false.

I searched for updated info of this tragic incident but didn't see much. As w/many stories, details of the events can change after thorough review. If you continue to receive 'alternative' accurate info, please continue to share it w/us.

It's just so sad! None of us is perfect, but none of us deserve to be killed for personal mistakes! Sorta like beating someone to a pulp while they are face down with their hands cufffed behind them and tazering them five times until they have a heart attack! If law enforcement does it, well, no one questions it.

I didn't know Dennis personally either, but he will be missed.

Here in Houston we had a kid that was being chased by police officers and he finally surrendered by laying on the ground with his hands behind his head. The officers proceeded to beat him, kick him, and pound the kid while he was laying there. All of this was caught on tape by a bystander. This officer was recently acquitted of all charges in a court of law. If the officers involved in Dennis' death are responsible they should be should be held accountable. No person is above the law. Even if they are the law. Hopefully the investigator that's pursuing this can get to the bottom of this mess.

I clicked on the thread because I saw a new post and was interested because I thought he did some more work on Silver. Didn't expect to see this. I didn't know him personally either, but R.I.P Dennis.

To any family and friends: Dennis was obviously talented and loved. I don't think you need to worry about his legacy, the best parts of his life speak for themselves. I lost my sister 2 years ago in a similar and tragic way, which the authorities did not adequately investigate. All I have to offer is one little piece of my own sorrow for your situation which hopefully will lift the burden if just for a second. Thoughts and prayers. // Leevon

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Hi guys, my name is Will. I lived with Dennis for about 10 months, but I moved out in late Jan this year. I have known him for about 5 years and helped him build his truck. I don't really want to get into details about his drug use. I will tell you one thing for sure, drugs are not who Dennis really was by any means! He was like a brother to me, and was a great person with obvious extreme talents and a love for square body trucks. He was a very fun guy to be around who always wanted to make you feel at home. Dennis was a generous person who sadly got caught up with a horrible addiction. But I will always remember the real person, and that's the way we should all be thinking.

His ex wife Amy is doing ok. It's his dad who needs a lot of continuous prayers. He is taking it pretty hard.

I have been to the house after he was killed and am in contact with Amy and other family members. All I can say is BaggedC10 is dead on correct with the info he posted. Dennis should be alive. It's all just a very sad and messed up situation. Please keep the prayers coming and remember Dennis for the real person he was. That's the way he would want it.

This is horrible. I didn't know dennis or ever speak to him but really felt like i lost a member of my family. I kept up with his build and it is truly inspiring. I for one hope that this site will dedicate a special section to dennis and his build, lets make it happen guys, he deserves that much. RIP Dennis.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

I am sorry to bump this again, but I have been following this build for a good while now. It has been a while since I had seen it so I decided to start from post 1 since it is truly an inspirational build. I kept getting more and more excited as I read on as if it were the first time I was reading it. Then, out of nowhere, something I could not believe. I read and re-read it many times in disbelief. I never met or spoke to him either online, much less in person, but I am honestly sitting here choked up. I had to take a moment to regather myself enough to make this post. My thoughts and prayers out to his family. I know they meant a lot to him and as such he meant a lot to them. May he rest in peace. He will not be forgotten.

This video was created by Dennis's brother-in-law. I find it increasingly difficult to trust local law enforcement in light of this situation (i.e., the murder of an individual in police custody).

wow crazy, now it seems that you (baggedc10) must have some type of connection to dennis and his family. Is there any information you can dig up on the where abouts of the truck? I know they say family has it but do they still have it? showing it or anything?

I hope they serve justice on that cop.
RIP DENNIS

Exclamation Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Wow! I just watched the video and it makes me furious that this kind of behavior by a law enforcement agency takes place and nothing is being done! Talk about ones civil rights being violated by being killed! The way it is being written off as just being another drug related incident and Dennis not being a man of color or anything means no outside group is likely to step in and demand action and accountability!
Finding out he was killed/murdered on my birthday means I'll be remembering this likeable guy each time it rolls around, aside from the fact that we share a name as well!
Sadly, Dennis is not the first to be done this way, nor will he be the last! I can only pray that something is done to help bring peace to his family left behind.
Rest in peace brother!

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Hey guys, I posted a while back. My name is Will and I lived with Dennis for a while and moved out just months before he was killed. I can tell you his father has the truck now safe and sound, just where Dennis would want it to be

The video BaggedC10 posted from YouTube is very hard to watch, but as many people need to as possible. This is happening all to often! Just remember, no matter what you think of him and his crime, that could have been your son, friend etc. It didn't have to end that way, and that's a fact it seems, even according to the sheriffs department!
